The Rangers drafted Sammy Sosa I think and Kenny Rogers and Kevin Brown. Lot of good players.

Im kind of surprised at how little relationship there is between successful drafting and world championships. The Cardinals have won what, one WS since ‘95? The D-Backs won one but most of the top teams have none.

Cardinals won the WS in 2006 and 2011, and two other WS trips in 2004 and 2013.  And only three losing seasons since 1995, and no 90+ loss seasons. Outside the Red Sox, Yankees and Giants there aren't any other teams that have had a run of success that is better.

For much of the period from 1995 to today there were other ways to acquire amateur talent, most notably the international market.  Which the Orioles largely punted on.  MacPhail more or less said that draft players taken at slot were the only method of talent acquisition with a high enough ROI to participate in.  So the only way the O's poured talent into the organization they were third-worst at in the majors.

That's not surprising at all.

Very interesting graph and thanks to Corn for posting. The Orioles would look much better if you repeated the analysis starting in say 2005. Still not great, but Weiters, Manny, Britton, etc, make the 2005-2018 Orioles much more respectable.

By the way, the Yankees would look much better if you sliced off some of the older dates. The b*st*rds.

All three of those guys were pre 95.  Guys they drafted in this time period include Teixeira, Adrian Gonzalez, Michael Young, Ian Kinsler, Hank Blalock, RA Dickey, John Danks to name a few 20+ WAR guys.
