So they didn’t have anyone in right field in the intra squad game yesterday due to players being out with covid. I wonder if they end up putting pitchers in the field during regular season if there is an outbreak with a team.

Five OFers on a 60 man roster does seem light.

So Umpire Joe West who is high risk and 67 was told by the league he was eligible for full pay and service time if he skipped the season but he said he is umpiring. 65 games from the all time record of games umped.  He has umpired in the big leagues since 1976.

They started with 4 (Hays, Stewart, Santander, Smith) but two are not in camp yet.  That's why they added the 2 yesterday.

Interesting, when the spring training roster was published in February Wilkerson was listed among the OFs but when the 60 man list came out last week he was listed as an infielder.

Hays, Stewart, Santander, Smith, and Wilkerson.  Who are the two new guys?

As I said, Wilkerson was listed as an infielder on the 60 man roster.

The two new guys are Ryan Mountcastle and Mason Williams who were added to the 60 man pool yesterday.

  • Thanks 2

Chapman and Royals back up catcher Cam Gallagher tested positive.

The concern with Gallagher is that he caught the game last night and was throwing the ball around with everyone.

Aroldis or Matt?  The manager of my fantasy team is asking.

    • Ah yes, Fever Pitch. It was entertaining, I liked it. Especially the pals gathering when the season tickets arrived. And yes, real BoSox fans were far less fun than that after they ended the curse. As for the O’s not giving us much, again, I understand the sentiment (like Moose’s take about abandonment). Maybe it is an abusive relationship of sorts, but I still get 6-7 months of baseball a year, several winning seasons, which despite the play-off torture zone, I do like the team being far more competitive than when they were stacking losing seasons. I love baseball, it really is my favorite sport. I think maybe I give them more room to fail because I live far from home and the O’s are the biggest part of my Maryland identity. Sounds weird maybe, but I do think that’s why I am already looking forward to the Hot Stove season where the O’s start adding the ‘nuggets’ that get them over the top. I also realize being hopeful during the off-season can be considered quite delusional by other O’s fans.
    • Refsnyder is another guy to look at as a RH OF. He mashed LHP last year too.
    • Mind you I don't live in Maryland so I don't have a pulse on the State or the city of Baltimore. Is what I see at the OH actually representational of the average fan?  My inclination is to think it isn't.    As to your other point, I'm sure they have an AAR at the conclusion of every season. My guess is the underlying numbers that they base things off of don't change much and they just tweak a few things.
    • Yeah he mostly played against LHP. Either way I think that’s deserving of more than his mutual option. Of course there seems to have been something in that Arizona water this year.
    • All the unhappiness expressed by O’s fans here over the last few days — that’s from unmet expectations. I think the 101 wins from the year before made most Baltimore fans expect more this season.  I definitely didn’t anticipate another winless, quick departure from the post-season.  As for the Elias post-mortem, I thought it was some industry speak and yet, I do believe him when he says they are going to take a hard look at the things not going well (and hopefully that means adding pitchers and better pitcher development and finding an old school playbook on small ball to move runners once in a while).
