Entering play on this day in 1970 the Baltimore Orioles were in 1st place in the American League East with a 86-47 record and held a 12.0 game lead over the second place New York Yankees.

With a winning percentage of .647, the Orioles had the best winning percentage in MLB, the Cincinnati Reds were second with a .637 winning percentage (86-49).

The Orioles went 22-8 during the month of August.
