Rebuild mode or Sell mode?

Lot of good discussion in this thread.  It seems as though the discussion has focused more on "rebuild mode" than "sell mode".  As the original poster, I just still have a "worrisome" feeling that the Orioles are not long for Baltimore.  Are the Angelos sons really that committed to the city?   I'm just asking?

I think they're in both rebuild and sell mode. It really makes the most sense based on everything I'm seeing with the rebuild/spending and what I've read re: 1) tax implications of selling before PA's death 2) potential new ownership groups preparing offers and 3) MLB wanting new ownership. So my assumption is they will sell when PA passes away.

Camden Yards is one of the top ballparks in MLB. It's an absolute gem. This market would have to crash in a massive way for MLB not to want to be here, and that won't happen. Outside of the perception of the downtown area, the broader Baltimore metro area is still relatively affluent and capable of supporting a good team. So even if the O's sold and were moved (which again, won't happen), I still think MLB would want a team in this stadium and area just about right away. Add to all of this the fact that MLB has almost never forced teams to move and I think you can stop worrying.

How many Mayflower trucks would it take to haul OPACY to Nashville?

Me?

It would depend on the whole group but I'd rather not have Cal be involved.  I think it has a greater chance of ending poorly than it does being a benefit.

No Cal for me. I love the guy. Probably my #1 sports hero as a kid, but there's nothing that makes me want him as an owner. I think he's too old school.

Right. Very different skill sets. Being a good player has nothing to do with being a good owner.

Yeah. And to be fair, there's much more that I don't know than there is that I do know about how Cal would be as an owner. I could be wrong.

My recollection is that he had thinning of the UCL and they deemed him to have an above average risk of needing to have TJ surgery in the future.   They made him an offer he didn’t accept, he went back into the draft, and then he did in fact tear his UCL.   I’d say it’s bad luck that they drafted a guy who had that problem, and good luck that he chose not to accept the offer they made to him.

I agree with those that have said a lease needs to be in place to rule out a sale/move. Ballpark renovations are needed, and those won't happen without a new lease. Camden Yards is wonderful for baseball fans, but it needs to be modernized. The scoreboard is dated and illegible, the LF upper deck beyond the fair pole needs to be completely removed or repurposed, and the Club Level feels dated and cramped. Outside of the ballpark, the surrounding area isn't as attractive as it used to be. The inner harbor is a mess, and really all you have is Pickles/Sliders as far as pre-game food that's walkable to the stadium. The average family isn't going to be spending time near the Casino area and Federal Hill isn't walkable for most fans either. Doesn't feel top-tier to me anymore, so hopefully a new lease comes soon with renovations and improvements.

What happened to the restaurants at the Sheraton and the Hyatt?  They used to be good places to go.

I'd rather overpay for ballpark food than hotel food, but its a close call.
