I think of Scott as a core player of the rebuild.  He will be arbitration eligible after the 2021 season.  He will not be a FA until after the 2024 season.     I don't see the O's trading him until 2023 unless someone blows them away with an offer.

Scott is one of the reasons the O's may turn things around in the year or two.

I don’t disagree with that, but it depends on the timing, where Mike thinks we are now, and whether Scott will be more valuable to us as a player or as a chip. If Mike keeps him(Assuming he continues to improve) It will indicate he thinks we’re closer to contention.

IIRC, spin rates were one of the main things Matt Harvey and the Jersey sports performance place was focusing on too.

Just like pool (billiards) it's all about the spin. ;)

It's a good thing because he's lost significant spin rate on his fastball (about 200 RPM) off his fastball from his pre surgery hey days.

I understand this completely, but I see him as a trade piece ultimately. In fact I would try to sling him ASAP if he continues to pitch well. I think at most we have a setup guy who at any moment could lose command and have a bad year. He had a great 20 innings and I'm happy about his increased spin, but I don't really buy that's he more valuable to the O's as a setup guy or even closer than whatever ML-ready piece(s) he could bring back in a trade.

Also, relievers are extremely volatile. If he becomes a bonafide stud this year (doubtful) his value to other teams is substantially higher than it is to the O's.

Anyone on this 26-man roster should be tradable for the right package, including Scott. I'm not in a hurry to move him, but if the trading deadline comes up and he's pitching lights out, if I'm the Orioles I'm moving him for the right package of nearly ready prospects of need.

    • We tried to get Cease from them at the deadline, and then in the offseason. Cease was much less complicated because he didn’t have innings issues and hadn’t been a reliever.  Now we have to make a trade with them with the complications of Crochet and expect not to trade one of Basallo, Mayo, and Holliday, plus.  Yeah, that ain’t happening. Stick to the rentals of Scherzer and Kikuchi. I know it’s taboo to say this, but once you get passed those two SP, who really is that much better than Suarez?  Suarez has only given up 3 HR all year and has a 2.50 ERA.
    • Not really. What SP are you taking off for him?   It seems like our guys reached some theoretical milestones of being an all star but they did a 2-3 deep at each position. Picked the players based solely on that position and not versus the entire position group. For Ex. It was DH v DH. 2B v 2B. COF v COF.  The only gripes are possibly, Westburg vs Peredes but the one player from each team rule.  Santander vs OF but they need guys that can play CF.  Kimbrel vs Holmes maybe here but Kimbrel getting demoted and not spreading out his rough outings affected perception.  Do they still do the last player in vote?  If so, Santa and Westburg could be on the ballot?
    • Well the NFL Rams franchise deserves some mention as they started in Cleveland in 1937, moved to LA in 1946, moved to St. Louis in 1995 and back to LA in 2016.  Fascinating that in each stop they have won a season’s ultimate prize (either NFL championship or Super Bowl)! To add some extra spice to the Rams franchise history they were involved with the Baltimore Colts in what was the largest trade of all time as described here. https://www.nfl.com/news/sidelines/digging-into-the-colts-and-rams-1972-franchise-swap-was-the-greatest-biggest-tra
    • I still say crochet isn’t traded. It makes sense for Chicago to trade him but they could still get a ton for him in the offseason or at the deadline next year if things go right. I do not feel his value is at its peak right now BUT his value does risk to take a huge drop if they don’t trade him. It’s not an easy spot to be in for anyone involved in this decision.
    • I don’t think many/any want or are eager to get rid of any of our very talented young players/prospects. However, I for one, am even less eager to see us roll with the pitching staff as is. The question/dilemma is what is the right amount of talent to acquire this year (and potentially beyond given the state of the rotation) to give us the best shot possible to be successful in October? And how to we balance that against our future potential/possibilities that some of the young players provide. It’s a very precarious position that Elias is in. We all hope that he makes great decisions that lead to both success now and in the future. But I get where you are coming from Kjerstad seems to have an elite power tool as the ball seems to really carry off of his bat.
    • I’m disappointed more O’s didn’t get in, but it’s hardly the biggest travesty in all star history, so, shrug. Jim Palmer mentioned on the broadcast that he didn’t make the All Star team two of the three times he won the Cy Young.
