For the pregame show tonight, Melewski canned some stuff from Delmarva yesterday, including a Cowser interview of two questions. Mrs. OrioleDog aided with the stopwatch and the "you know" tabulation. We got 10 in 57 seconds. If he’s truly Markakis, that works for me. One of my all-time faves.
CharmCityHokie
Considering Nick has the most bWAR of any player drafted in the first round of his class (Adam Jones included), I think I'd be absolutely happy with the Cowser decision if he ended up the Markakis of his draft class. Now we just have to wait 20 years to find out! https://www.baseball-reference.com/draft/?year_ID=2003&draft_round=1&draft_type=junreg&query_type=year_round (Disclaimer: I know that bWAR or any other singular stat is not a great way to actually measure the outcome of a draft round in total, but I do think it provides an interesting quick snapshot). EDIT: This was in reply to OrioleDog and Frobby, not trying to derail the overall thread

EDIT: This was in reply to OrioleDog and Frobby, not trying to derail the overall thread Aside from the "you know" fun, when I say I peg Cowser like Markakis, it doesn't mean I feel his mid-case is attaining Hall of Very Good performance, to me it just means Markakis is representative of the "kind" of good player I think the guy has a shot to become. They are grape juice, not orange juice or iced tea. Who knows how watered down he'll end up? Anyhow, regular plug that if Cowser is our Bregman in terms of quick complement to Rutschman/Rodriguez core, Bregman signed his draft year, played 30 games in Low-A, 35 games in High-A, and opened in AA the following season. Cowser doesn't have 65 games of runway, but he does have 40-ish. My hope is a month is enough time for him to show he's just plain way too good for his starting level. I could imagine him having a chance to barrel his way to the Arizona Fall League.
Frobby
A few quotes from Cowser in here. https://www.masnsports.com/steve-melewski/2021/08/top-pick-colton-cowser-banks-hits-now-while-looking-to-future.html
Tony-OH
Of note, was played in RF yesterday. He's a big guy and while he runs well, it is interesting that he's already seeing some corner outfield time.

RZNJ
It wasn't your average single either. A rocket to the RF wall. Some early excitement to follow the Delmarva games. The night before, Cook had a big game. Almost all looking good early on.

Somehow, I more enjoyed the fact that it was a rocket to where the rightfielder couldn't get it.

I wonder what the EV on that hit was — it was absolutely smoked!
