Losing is one thing but to lose at losing might be too much to take. It might be time for a massive COVID outbreak ? to cancel the rest of the Orioles season, all games forfeited. Elijah Green come on down

MLB.com just came out with a mock draft that has Green going 5th.   So I guess you want us to take him overslot at #1?

I don't know these kids from a hole in the ground so whoever is the number one prospect is fine with me. Just gotta make sure we have that pick.

I was wondering if Green would start getting scrutinized for his high strikeout rate and it looks like he is now. Being a great athlete is fine, but ultimately baseball is a game of skill.

So that gives him a C- bat to go with the D- glove?  I think you'd get as much or more production out of one of the many freely available B gloves with D bats.

I think you are kidding yourself that there are a bunch of those types freely available.  If there were, Austin Wynns wouldn’t be our backup C.

PS - Any time I criticize Wynns, I feel bad because I know he’s a classy guy.  So, sorry about that.

Valdez was clutch tonight. IBB the go ahead run. You can’t make this stuff up.

I agreed with it at the time.  Harper is sporting a 1.160 OPS vs. RHP and the risk that he would send a Valdez offering into orbit seemed high.  Realmuto is solid vs. RHP (.783 this year) but not in Harper’s class.   Yes there is risk but it seemed reasonable in those circumstances.   If Santander were running like he did last year, Realmuto’s hit is caught.

Fact of the day: the median OPS of all catchers in modern Oriole history is .603.  Median, not average.  "Catcher" defined as played at least 50% of their games for the Orioles as a catcher.

102 players meet that criteria.  #51 is Ernie Whitt, who OPS'd .603 in his 35 games as an Oriole in 1991.

The average would be much higher, everyone meeting this criteria with 1000+ PAs had at least a .623 OPS. (Caleb Joseph).  The median if you set the qualifier to 1000 PAs is .741 (Earl Williams).

With 10 games remaining for both the O's and Diamondbacks, we are tied.

The Diamondbacks have the 3rd hardest remaining strength of schedule. The Orioles remaining strength of schedule is 19th hardest. So much easier if that wording was confusing.

The D-Backs are losing 4-1 already today in the 7th.  Look at their remaining schedule.....Dodgers for 3, at San Fran for 3, Colorado for 3.  What game are they winning in there?  They maybe finish 1 - 8 if they can get one from Colorado  We are not going to finish 1 - 9.  We probably win 2 alone against Texas.

    • Glad Bob Melvin and I don’t see eye to eye on that issue Well said, that make two of us, Bunting Ced down 5-3 with nobody out that late in the game is absurd.
    • Sorry to hear this--wishing you a sound recovery, in time for the O's run to the Series! (That would speed up the healing!)
    • Santander is a good case for the Rule V draft. That's unfortunately the same system that's going to make his next contract potentially look bad. If only he were a couple of years younger. It's hard to commit 25+M to a player at 30+. He's going to be missed in Baltimore, on the field and by the fans, but he's someone that they're going to have to let move on.
    • While I agree and find your comment funny, maybe just say something along the line of”Don’t give up on this team” or “Quite being Debbie downers” instead of assuming they are projecting the own misery in their lives. People might take it better if it doesn’t feel like a personal attack. Either way, that win felt good and I HOPE this is finally the turning point going into the playoffs soon.
    • I've made it clear that if they don't sign Santa and Burnes I'm ok with it as long as the money is allocated to other players they feel that fits their profile better .You know you have people on here like SG who only hears what he wants to hear. I need to learn to ignore that guy.
    • Oh mr know it all. Who most times is wrong. Lol
    • I also think Santander will age better than Trumbo, despite my repeated comparisons of the two players. But I don't know that he will age better than Trumbo and all of the other one dimensional sluggers who were enjoying the retired millionaire sports star lifestyle by their mid-30s, and I don't want the Orioles to be on the hook when the world finds out in 2 or 3 years. Re-signing Santander to a 4 year, $80 million dollar deal is something the DD/PA regime would have done. Hopefully the ME/DR regime is smarter than that (and I think they are). 22nd percentile is really bad, man. And it's unlikely to improve in his 30s.
