Rule 5 list

I know it's a bit early but with all the roster churn, Is there anywhere that quickly provides which players need to be protected for this year's Rule 5 draft?

Yes, go to Roster Resource (now found on Fangraphs) and in the minor league portion of the list there’s a column that shows when a player will be subject to the Rule 5.   Players eligible this year are marked with a red “R5” (for players previously eligible) or “Dec. ‘21” for the newbies.

One name that has entered into the must protect list is Neustrom.  Didn’t have him as one of the must protects a few months ago.

It shows Ryan Mountcastle in Baltimore as well as Norfolk.   Looks like they put Mountcastle in Norfolk when they should have put McKenna.

So the 40 man guys in Norfolk are the ones with a slighly different shade of beige background in their name field?

Doesn't look like a ton of names that will be necessary to add.  For some reason I thought DL Hall as Rule 5 eligible this year but he's not marked.

Neustrom isn't marked as R5 eligible, at least not on the page that I'm looking at?

So "R5" in the "Options or R5 Status" column obviously means they are Rule 5 eligible.

But what does "Dec '21" mean?   That is when the rule 5 draft is.  Are those guys eligible too???   If not, what exactly does Dec 21 mean?

I too am confused. There are 3 things confusing me.

1. R5
2. 0
3. Dec '21

My best guess is R5 means they're already eligible for the Rule 5 draft; 0 means they have no options and will either have to be on the ML team or DFA'd and clear waivers to be kept, and Dec '21 means they'll be eligible for the Rule 5 draft this December, which means they'll have to be on the 40 man this December.

Is all/any of that right?

Ah, that would make more sense.  Like I said I was pretty sure that DL Hall needed to be protected.

I'll let SG or Frobby or others chime in to confirm though.

I read it as they need to added in Dec 21 to avoid being drafted in the rule 5, which is the month it happens.

Look at Fenter for example. He is listed R5 and he was taken last year. 
 

So to me, R5 is someone who can be selected in the rule 5 because they aren’t protected and are eligible by R5 rules.

So anyone with "R5" or "Dec '21" will have to be protected or we could risk losing him?

Yes that’s how I would read it.  Obviously, most of the names on that list you won’t even think about protecting but there will be some questions like Feliz.
