Santander in August

Santander has obviously had a tough year, with his bad ankle being a big reason why.

But he is hitting the ball well this month.

His OPS for August is well over 1.000 And his overall OPS is up nearly 100 points this month, up to 742.

He still has an outside shot at putting up an 800 OPS for the season if he can continue to end on a high note.

Whether or not the team looks to trade him or not, im glad to see him finish strong as I would rather not see them non tender him and I do think that there was/is a chance they do that.  A strong finish should negate that thought.

I’d imagine they try to trade him this offseason.

I think this is true too…but you won’t get much for him if he tapers off and ends up with an OPs in the low 700s.

But if he ends up with 20+ homers and an OPS around 800, meaning he ended strong and knowing he had the ankle injury, his value should be back to the level of this past offseason.  You may argue that it will be a little Higher.

His power is legit. When he's hitting homers they are one hopping the warehouse. I just don't know what the ceiling will be with his injury history, sub .300 OBP and spotty defense. If he continues this into September that would be huge.

Yes exactly. He’s definitely someone I hope to see finish strong.

I doubt they trade Santander.  They will give him 4m in arbitration.  No probably with that.

Mancini and Stewart are the ones that have more of the chance of not being back IMO.

I just don’t think they have the guts to trade Mancini. Even if it’s clearly the right move.

I think Santander is the only player we bring back that is in Arb. Mancini will be traded. Severino will be DFAd.

They may DFA Severino to not pay him what he would get in arbitration.  But they might resign him.   As was pointed out to me on the OH, back up catchers with some pop are not easy to come back.  I think they want Adley to C/1B  to keep his bat in the lineup.   So the backup catcher could catch 60-70 games.   Severino currently has a 795 OPS vs lefties. If Hyde is selective with when Severino plays, it could work.

Elias has not problem with trading popular players if he thinks it helps the team long term. Villar and Iglesias were both guys the fans wanted to keep.  It didn't matter to Elias.
