The numbers in the article don't give IP. FWIW the better set (11.7 K/9, 1.9 BB/99) was the larger sample. The bad one was only 3 IP.

I’m really happy to see Rangel in the final spot.   He showed a lot of potential in the FCL. I’m hoping he makes the jump to Delmarva next year, and really see no reason why he shouldn’t.   To me he’s a guy who could shoot up the rankings next year.

I’m interested to see how many innings they give him next year. I assume he starts at Delmarva so do they delay his start or end his season early? Maybe limit him to 3 innings for a while?

Yeah thats how I feel too. The skys the limit. 6'3, mid 90's fastball with a good changeup. Sounds like a great prospect to me.

That is a bold future prediction for his fastball - scoring at a 65!!  How much movement is on that?  If he can develop a change up and some type of breaking pitch - even major league average level stuff, that is a great prospect.

Well he is already touching 95 mph, is 18 years old, 6-foot-3, and a bean pole that has a lot of room to add good weight and strength. Obviously future grades with these guys is doing a bit of a wag, but I could be underselling this fastball potential.

Potential potential potential. As Frobby said, he could jump way up lists by this time next year. 

Should he be #30 now or should he be #20? #15? That's a fair debate, IMO, on the standard of who would you rather have in your org?

I'll take lottery tickets like this all day and twice on Sunday over Hudson Haskin, for example. Nothing against the latter. I think Tony's ranking does recognize the extreme risk in projecting a kid this young. Can he even throw strikes? Will he ever have a good secondary pitch? Will his arm withstand the stress of being a professional pitcher? We don't know. We just hope. So we really shouldn't get ahead of ourselves. But it's hard not to.

2.3 BB/9, in a league that averaged 4.9 BB/9.   I’m feeling pretty good about his ability to throw strikes.

Just curious, how you profiled Peralta when he was this young? I constantly heard Peralta being a potential breakup because of his outstanding fastball. Any parallels in their profile?

Try this:

My view: Rangel is considerably more polished than Peralta was at the same stage.   Maybe a similar ceiling but Rangel’s odds of developing into an average or better major leaguer are higher.

Rangel May never become anything but give me these low 6 figure IFA signings all day long.  
 

Not that I’m not happy to spend on the higher guys but just keep piling on kids like this and eventually you get lucky.

Rangel has much better control. Peralta was a pure thrower at 18 years old and had no idea where the ball was going for years.
