Its been so long for me, i havent even heard of half the players on this team before. (Lost interest in all sports) I honestly cant give an answer.  I really want to get back into Baseball again.

It's a good time to start following the O's again. Even though the past few years have been terrible, our farm system is full of promising hitters, and we've finally built an infrastructure in the international market. I truly believe better days are ahead for the franchise. And Peter Angelos isn't going to live forever.

Get to know the team's farm system. I think you'll enjoy following our prospects as several of them get promoted to the major league team over the next few years.

Gutierrez is my pick. The power he began to show late in the year was encouraging for me. The defense and athleticism are excellent. I think he will surprise a lot of people this year.

A breakout for Mateo, for me, would be that he shows he can handle SS on a daily basis. I don’t know if he is a .750 OPS guy, consistently, but anything close would be just fine to me.

Hays has more there, but I am not sure he’ll get to it. He was pulling off badly last year and still finished strong. My hope is that Santander finally stays healthy and bounces back strong.

My hope is that one of Zimmerman, Akin, Wells (A), Lowther, Kremer or Baumann has a real breakout year.

It is getting very discouraging that the O's aren't pouncing on one of the infielders in FA.  So what we have guys that "might" get a cup of coffee at the end of this year.  Make them earn their spot on the roster rather than see if they don't fail.  Correa, Story, Seager any of which improves this lineup and defense immediately.  "We have Westburg and Gunnar possibly coming up near the end of this season",  do you really think that even if one does come up this season and gets a chance to play every day next year, that they will instantly be good?  It just doesn't happen often that way.  What if neither can cut it in the big leagues?  Throw in the towel for another 4 years of rebuilding?  Hi we have become the Pirates.

This is the second time I have read someone questioning if the O's top prospects are expected to be good right away.   If the O's top prospects have proven themselves at AAA they will get promoted and play whether they start off good or not.  Mountcastle took some time to get going  in the majors.   But the O's kept playing them.

If the rebuild is going to work the O's have to give their top prospects time to develop in the majors once they are determined to be ready.

So, let’s say they go out and sign Correa to a 10 year/$350 million deal. Are you willing to trade all top prospects not named Adley, Grayson and maybe DL? We’d have to make a ton of moves to acquire real MLB pitching and fill other holes. Why else spend the money in 2021? Unless maybe you waste a year of the Correa contract like SD did with it’s FA signings. And it hasn’t worked out so well for them.

I’ll go with the least likeliest pick and say Richie Martin. After a couple months of doing well in AAA, he’ll eventually get called up and become the every day SS. I’ll say he’s been held back by injury and maybe some pressure to do well since he’s been on the cusp of losing his roster spot. Now that the pressure is off and he has some time being healthy to properly prepare then he’ll turn a corner and be who we had all hoped when he was taken in the rule 5. Great glove with a decent bat.

Ask me again tomorrow and I’ll have a different answer though

Yes, but we should understand that could take a few years, not a few months.   Adam Jones wasn’t at his best until about 4-5 years into his career.  Matt Wieters wasn’t at his best until 3-4 years in.   Not everyone is like that, but a lot are.    So I’m expecting 2022-24 to be a period of a lot of debuts and improvement, but I doubt this team really hits its stride until 2025 or so.  That doesn’t mean they can’t contend before that, just that I don’t think they’ll really hit a peak until then.
