So tired of this, it's gonna drag all damn weekend, too.

I was bummed that I was gonna be out all day, but maybe its a blessing, really. I'm so over this right now.

I hear you that this is dragging out and becoming a roller coaster, but is there some piece of news that I missed why people seem a little down? Seems like the O's chances are as good as they've ever been.

I'm guessing an agreement is reached tonight and announced tomorrow. Mostly because I have a lot of work to do today and this makes me feel better about not being able to check on the board very often.

The past 11 years have unfortunately caused Orioles fans to expect the worst.

Signing Tex will reverse this line of thinking........

They put the Angels at $160MM and the Sox at $175MM and suggest Henry is calling Boras' bluff.

Actually I have a different take on this. Boston is admitting they will not go higher , the Angels already have done this. I think after yesterday evening they compared notes. This is a release of info like how the O's are usually giving. "We had the highest offer from a real team" is what they are telling Red Sock Nation. The Angels like it getting out there also because they show thier fans that they were really in it. With the Yankees saying we are not going there it is down to the O's and the Nats, IMO.

I thought Andy MacPhail, signing Wieters, trading Bedard/Miggy/Ramon for prospects, building a facility in the Dominican, foraying into the Asian market, and putting Baltimore back on the jerseys was supposed to reverse that line of thinking. It's never enough.

Sign Mark Teixeira. That's enough. This changes everything - especially perception. Perception is reality.

I agree with you, I am just saying to the casual fan signing Tex will do more than any of that mentioned above.

It's simple process of elimination here. The Yankees didn't top the Sux offer, the Angels didn't top the Sux offer so that leaves the Nationals and Orioles.

And Angelos' ain't losing to the Nats...

Not so fast my friend.

Hunter's quotes lead me to believe that the Angels are very much a player here.

And they can offer one thing the Nats and O's can't: competing in 2009 and 2010.

Trying to sort out this whole mess, here is what I think:

We know Tex was in Baltimore this past weekend, and apparently Boras met with Angelos and AM sometime in the timeframe. Later in the week AM claims that the O's are "flexible" with their offer. Today we find out that Boras met with the Sox and the Sox say they have been outbid. Hm... I have a feeling most of the final offers are in and Boras was just making the final rounds hoping that the Sox would outbid, just as the media suspected. I have a feeling this thing is going to be resolved one way or another very soon.

That's what I'm saying. It's everyone just "tempering" their emotions and trying to use this thing called "reason", whatever that is. ;) I mean but seriously, this is all very good news, people.

What is very good news???

The sox made an offer of around 8/160 8/184 and were told there was a better offer.

The orioles have been linked to an offer of 7/150 and there is no proof they have raised the offer.

I still think Boston is bluffing and will be back in it.

I want Tex to come here, but until its a done deal we are still a longshot unless we get news that we have upped the offer.

    • I thought Chisholm missed home too. They didn’t appeal tho I don’t think.
    • Now run scores and Yanks take lead.
    • Inexcusable missed call in NY. Review Cleo at showed Chisholm out at 2nd. They upheld safe call.
    • Well, good on posters who proved the SSS side of "Guards Ball." I just found it striking in terms of the narrative in that article, which was basically the same as what most around here were complaining the O's lacked: clutch hitting, passing the baton, aggressive running, getting runners in from third, etc. I guess the real bottom line is "whatever works." Which of course varies from case to case. The old Bill James postseason wisdom was that HRs are the ticket, since you face good pitching and get so few hits. So back to you, Elias, keep crunching those numbers...
    • First, the had a jump in 23’ given how terrible they had been previously, which conditions many fans in the marketplace not to care. They simple weren’t relevant for years. So one very good regular season will not undue years of being bad/irrelevant and treating your customers terribly. Next, I think they missed an opportunity in the offseason by not doing enough by way of big/bold attention grabbing moves. Now I acknowledge that this was most likely due to the ownership flux/transition. I believe they got an attendance/marketplace engagement boost when they changed owners and when they traded for Burnes. However, I believe we would have seen more engagement attendance with say a big Gunnar extension and/or bringing in a big time FA.   IMO this would have created more buzz before the season (say around the time people make season tix decisions - IMO before Christmas is when some people make those bigger purchases). All of this is to say, that it will take time and effort on the organizations part because of how bad of a stain that the Angeloses left. I still have friends and colleagues who refuse to support the Orioles and attend games due to the damage that was done. Rubenstien & co are not going to be able to undo 30 years of awfulness overnight. But IMO it is not enough to simply call it “a new chapter”. They have to make new/different actions to distinguish themselves from who the Orioles were/used to be under the Angelos regime.
    • Just checking in on Gameday, Yankees looking incredibly vulnerable.  Should be the Os out there.  Super lame.  Whichever team wins this series I hope gets knocked out by CLE or DET.
    • If the franchise were better, the fan base would be too.  It’s been a rough 40 years.
