With the first pick in the 2048 Global All-Player Draft...the Baltimore Orioles select Cesar Valdez

Yusniel Diaz will just be getting healthy by then and his timing for promotion to the big league team would align well with the progression of the 2048 pick.

Geez…. At least go with Brooks Lee if you want a college guy…. He can play infield (though probably won’t stick at SS).   Berry is a great hitter but has looked bad at every position they’ve tried , even first base

Love the bloodlines with Jones but don't forget about that new left field wall with RHBs. Berry may be more suited for the new dimensions at least offensively although if he's a 1B/DH type defensively that could set-up some issues with roster flexibility with Rutchsman and Mountcastle in the mix long-term. Elias hasn't really been known for going with the consensus in the 1st round so I could definitely see Berry or Holliday happening. Of course with Holliday you get the LHB and the bloodlines.

The last thing the O's need is a DH w/ the #1 pick.

It seems like the O's selection should come down to Jones and Lee.  Lee would be more of the sure thing and might be projected to have the better ML bat.  Jones could likely be the better all around player d/t his elite defense.

Getting the extra pick from the Marlins could help offset any overslot demands from Druw Jones.

I don't think that there would be any actual overslot demands from Jones. If you get picked 1-1, that's the most money you're ever going to get, and if he turns it down and goes to college, what are the chances he goes 1-1 again in 3 years? He might, and he might get a little more as the pick compensation increases every year, but it doesn't seem enough of an increase to risk losing out on the 1-1 slot pay day.

The Berry pick that Law muses about makes no sense.  He is a DH.  But Holliday could make sense if they think he is close to Jones because could come much cheaper and plays SE

I'm not going to pretend I'm an expert on Elias strategy, but I can't imagine Elias is choosing a defensively limited 1B w/ the #1 pick.  (or DH)

You loved Valdez and his 5.87 ERA, but hate Elias picking Adley Rutschman #1?

Just want to make sure I have that straight.

What nonsense are you making up? I have never once criticized the Adley pick. That is grossly inaccurate.

If I were Dru Jones and got drafted by the Orioles, no way am I taking the money.  I’m taking my game somewhere else for a year and getting drafted by another team.  Even with the added year, he’s likely to make MLB faster.  I’m afraid of the long term consequences with player relations of the ridiculous slow playing to manipulate control.  They are fn with these kids lives and it is not a good look.

    • The outfield might be slick from all the rain. I think that can influence lineup decisions.
    • @Bahama O's Fanor a free trial of any streaming platform. YouTube TV, Directtv, etc.
    • I’ve been rending my garments over Adley and his struggles for months now. But I will say that it seems like a bit of an odd time to come together as a group on the notion of benching him — just as he’s been starting to show some signs of being Adley again.  Over the last week of the season, Adley had a 50% hard hit rate and an average EV of 89.9 MPH. Those numbers absolutely dwarf what he was doing for months, when he was sitting at more like a 26% HH rate and an 85 MPH EV. Anecdotally, I can’t even remember the last time we saw Adley drive a ball into the left-center gap like he did multiple times against MIN. That’s Adley at his very best, and it was a sight for sore eyes.  I’m not sold that he’s 100% back, and I would still stick with McCann catching Burnes tomorrow (especially since using Adley as the DH is viable with a LHP starter in Ragans). But I sincerely doubt we can run the table without at least a few stretches of Adley being Adley — so I think this recent spurt is probably enough to warrant sending him out there every day still, in hopes that he really is getting it locked back in.
    • Apparently, if you just waited to buy tickets, you could just basically go for free. Well done orioles.
    • Well, they likely would not have drafted an overslot SS with the second round pick if they had taken another HS SS first overall, so would you rather have Henderson and Rutschman or just Witt?
    • It’s my understanding that nationally televised games are usually blacked out. Consider a free trial subscription of Fubo if they are still offering it.
    • The Orioles starters absolutely have to do better against the Royals. You can't ask this bullpen to pitch most of the game and expect to win. Right now I probably trust Coulombe the most and Soto (which I never would have guessed a couple weeks back). Perez has been really shaky recently to the point I'm wondering is he nursing a tired arm or minor injuey. Cano hasn't been good as well and O's really need him to get back into a groove. And Akin is usually trustworthy, but only starting the inning clean.
