Anyone consider that maybe if Rubenstein wants to win a World Series now, he might be less likely to offer extensions to our young players and more likely to add talent from outside?
The Yankees just won more playoff games in a 2 week stretch than we have won in 27 years. Literally. And while that is in the past now and we are talking about the future, I wish I could feel confident that our future is better than theirs. They are a team that has not finished below .500 in 32 years, so they are never not in contention. And they have the money and willingness to go after players like Soto, who is a generational talent that can elevate the rest of his team. He is a complete difference maker in October and those dudes don't come along often. The Yankees can plod along in the regular season, but the reality is their offensive talent has really come through when it counts and ours flat out didn't. So until our homegrown talent starts showing up in big games and until our ownership and management decide they have had enough of sitting at the kiddie table, they are going to be spending Octobers watching other teams win games.
I’d tender a contract if you think he’s back in 2025. I’m assuming he wouldn’t make much more than the 2M he mad this year. If you don’t think he’s back in 25, I think it’s a waste of money.
Maybe it’s just my cynical viewpoint or lack of knowledge, but it’s always seemed like Elias is trying to extend that farm ranking a little longer. Almost like he doesn’t trust himself at the big league talent evaluation. We’re gonna find out if it was Angelos or Elias, but I don’t think we’re gonna like what we find.
