The second half schedule

70 games remaining:

15 with Toronto (.538 so far), 9 at home and 6 on the road.  Incredibly, all 15 of those games are in the final 54 games of the year.  We are 2-2 against them so far.

11 games against Boston (.516 so far), 6 at home and 5 on the road.   And all those are in the final 51 games of the year.   We are 5-3 against Boston so far.

So amazingly, in our final 54 games we play the Jays and Red Sox 26 times.  One game short of half the remaining schedule in the final third of the season.  That’s crazy.  Make no mistake, if we don’t lose touch with the wildcard pack before then, we will have opportunities to catch and pass those two teams.  

As to the other 44 games:

7 at with Tampa Bay (.554), 4 at home and 3 on the road.  We’re 5-7 against them so far.   

7 against Houston (.656), 4 at home abd 3 on the road.   We haven’t played them this year.

6 with New York (.681), 3 at home and 3 on the road.   We’re 4-9 against them so far. 

3 at home with the White Sox (.500), who we beat 3 out of 4 in Chicago.

3 at Cleveland (.511), who beat us 2 out of 3 at OPACY.

3 at Cincinnati (.373), who we haven’t played.  

3 at Texas (.456), who we swept 3-0 in Baltimore.

3 at home against Pittsburgh (.419), who we haven’t played.

3 at home against Oakland (.344), who beat us 3 of 4 at the Colliseum.

3 at home against Detroit (.402), who swept 3 from us at Comerica Park.

2 at Washington (.330), who split two in Baltimore.

1 at home with the Cubs, who we’ve beaten once at home and twice on the road.  

Altogether, that’s 43 games against teams with winning records, 3 against a .500 team, and 24 against teams with losing records.  That’s no picnic.  Of course, we’re used to it.  Of the 90 games already played, 59 were against winning teams (based on their current record), 4 against .500 teams, 27 against losing clubs.   That’s life in the AL East.

I should add, pretty much all the AL East teams have only played about 27 games against teams with losing records.

I'm not going to say that this sets us up favorably for a playoff run (wink), but it absolutely puts us in the driver's seat. We'll have to play a bit better than .500 to get there, but it's well within reach. A lot depends on what Elias does down the stretch.

Makes sense when you consider that 10 teams are .500 or better in the AL (everyone but TEX, LAA, DET, KC, and OAK) coupled with the division heavy schedule.
