This makes me think Elias traded for Brett Phillips because he was working out a trade of Santander, Hays or Mullins that fell through at the trade deadline.

That's the only way the trade of Phillips makes any sense when the Orioles already have Ryan McKenna as a 4th outfielder who brings defense and speed. Even then, I think you could argue just call up Stowers and roll with players already in the organization.

One down, two to go (I'm looking at Nevin and Odor - realizing the latter being replaced is a long shot). 

It came three weeks later than it should have but in the grand scheme of things it's not a huge deal as long as Stowers is here to stay.  Phillips being added to the roster was always a head scratcher to begin with.

He may not have been ready to bring him up.

Richie Martin goes back when Vavra returns or at least that move makes the most sense with both of them being infielders.

100% agree, I said it after they announced getting him and this just confirms it for me.  I think it was Mullins, maybe Hays for the defense Phillips provides.

Martin probably gets one start. 

Hays or Mountcastle could certainly use a rest day against a RHP. Also this may be why Santander has been taking ground balls at 1B.

Possible, but I doubt three weeks makes that much of a difference with Stowers being more ready now.

My guess is we see Gunnar in September. 11 games left to play this month. Or as Frobby and others have said the 23rd if they think he can handle 1st well enough to backup.
