B.J. Surhoff also came back. I think he cried when they traded him. I know his kid was going to a special schoo in Baltimore theni

He did. His son is autistic. He and his wife were part of the group that started up the Pathfinders for Autism organization.

Sorry to turning this back to Mychal Givens in his thread about signing Mychal Givens (hint, hint).

Of interest, Givens had trouble with lefties last year with them posting a .273/.371/.455/.825 line with a .348 WOBA against him.

His main weapon against them has always been his changeup, but put up a .401 WOBA against the pitch last year after being .242 in 2021 and .330 (below average) in 2020. He has lost about 3 to 4 inches of horizontal movement (fade) since 2019 but has gained about an inch of vertical (drop).

He started throwing more right on right changeups last year with success and his slider is still pretty effective in getting outs against righties. His fastball was hit a little bit by both so he may have to be a bit more of a junkballer in key situations.

He's lost about two MPH from when we had him 2019.

I still like the acquisition though. This makes Krebiel and Politi types now fight to make the team vs fighting for a spot.

Well said Tony!  Way to bring the thread back on topic.  I wonder what Mychal Givens would think about Segui, Bordick, Davis, Surhoff, etc. and their contributions to the community? 🤣🤣🤣

He seemed to always have his issues with lefties.  I think they can pick up the ball well Vs him.

If Wells goes to the pen and no one is dealt, he is your 4th or 5th reliever, depending on what happens with guys like Tate and Perez. That’s pretty solid imo. I really like the upside of the pen.

If only they would add one real bat and one real starter.

Definitely a lot of upside in that pen. I really want that extra starter though.

And I'm with Moose on this one. I think Givens slots as a 6/7th inning type. I could see him being meh. I'm actually a little surprised that we even signed him for that much. It's not the same overpay as Frazier, for sure, but feels like a bit of one to me.

Of course he could be meh. But he also could be really good and insurance for the existing back 3 guys, all of whom could also be meh.

Hes an insurance policy that expires at the end of the year. It’s a good move.
