This was raised tangentially in the City Connect thread - is it time for the Orioles to ditch “Thank God I’m a Country Boy?”

If your answer is yes, do you have a suggestion for a specific song or type of song to replace it?   If you answer “Sweet Caroline,” I will personally come to your house and hit you with a sledgehammer.

Personally, I don’t care much one way or the other.  I was going to games when the tradition started.  It seemed like the O’s were always rallying in the bottom of the 7th after that song got played, so they kept playing it.  Simple as that.  The song has nothing to do with Baltimore, but I guess it makes more sense than “Rocky Mountain High” or “Take Me Home, Country Roads.”

At no point in my lifetime did that song make sense to me. Musically it’s kind of a cool crowd song, but there is nothing lyrically associative with Baltimore.

I don’t care where I am.  If I hear any part of that song it makes me think of Baltimore.

And Baltimore is a City.  Not many "Country Boys" to be found there....   If the song was titled, "Thank God I'm a City Boy" that would make more sense.

I like Centerfield by Fogerty, though this might be overdone....  Born to Run by the Boss might work.

Although admittedly it would be completely corny, I'll say Bust a Move by Young MC.

Since I've always been a country boy and live in the sticks in southern Virginia, I always get a kick out of traveling to Baltimore and listening to city folk sing about being a country boy. I love the song and I love the irony and I hope they keep it. (By the way, this country boy will make the trip this weekend to take in all three Ranger games).

That’s strictly Pavlovian. If you had grown up with Lola or Bringing on the Heartbreak as our 7th inning song, they would remind you of Baltimore too. But it wouldn’t make them any better suited for the task.

I don't particularly care too much.

Do whatever.

Yea..I’m trying to think of something I care less about at the ballgame vs this.

It’s one of those things that I don’t get in terms of people who get real passionate about it, one way or another.

Never made any sense. It's the kind of thing that would have been cool for one season but shouldn't have stuck. I would be inclined to get rid of it although I like the idea of having our own song rather than "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" or "God Bless America".
