Bullpen Game?

There has been a lot leading up to a day like today. Grayson not being good enough. Calling up various pitchers and not using them forcing them to wait out the 15 day period.

It's a long season and I expect them to be a good team until the end, but they have to figure out a way to better manage innings and call ups so that they can spread out the decent RP with mediocre ones.

Irvin was not available because pitchers who are sent down have to stay there for 15 days.

That said, Bruce Zimmerman pitched on 5/26 and he seems like he would've been a fine option for a spot start.

But couldn't they have brought him up for the Mullins injury and sent him right back down and then activate Hicks?

No, that would have put them over the 13 pitcher limit.

Mullins had to be replaced by a position player.

So much for Cleveland having the worst offense in baseball. All they needed was a trip to OPACY to break out of their season long slump.

The Braves have one of best offenses in baseball and scored 8 runs total in a three game series against Oakland who was giving up over 7 runs a game on the season.  You never know it short stints in baseball.

Is any media member going to have the balls to ask Hyde who came up with brilliant idea and then issued the order? And if Hyde gives a non answer kind of an answer will he/she restate and ask again?

Hyde can't make up his own lineup.  You can;t think he has the leeway to have a bullpen game instead of using a starter.

I agree, this was an unbelievably dumb decision.  And not only based on the results, but from the fact that we should not have had a game plan going into today that could potentially use 80% of our exhausted bullpen in a single game.

I have no idea why we didn't see a spot start today from already-on-the-40-man and on-5-days-rest Bruce Zimmerman, and some movement with the pen to keep us at the 13 limit (Akin back down, Zimmerman back down post-start, and then Hernández up for a couple of weeks, for example)... and I guess we'll never know.  🤷‍♂️

The 13 pitcher + position player limit is so dumb.  Teams should be able to field whatever combination of players they want.
