Is it at all likely that it’s a minor strain from over-throwing that last pitch that might heal with rest? Or is it probable that anything that caused that much discomfort after that pitch almost certainly has to be some sort of UCL tear? Forearm strain sounds like best case scenario to me realistically. It's a good thing we held onto all of our middle infield prospects for just such an emergency.

It would be just as dumb to assume that he's out until 2025 as it would be to assume that he'll be back next week. They test and evaluate and if it is Tommy John he has the operation mid September. He wont be back for at least 12 months. That puts us at next September. Dont see them rushing him so he is gone till spring training of 2025. Its just math at this point.
orioles119
He'll definitely go on the IL but it could be a blessing in disguise **IF** it's not as devastating as the Ohtani news.

Right, but that's assuming he needs Tommy John. Which nobody knows at this point.

doccat
Physician here (and my son is a pitcher). I think anyone who throws 103 mph and grimaces like that after a pitch must have something catastrophic…. I’d love to be wrong…. 1

It’s great to see and fun to watch but it’s a ticking time bomb. Unfortunately, it just feels inevitable for Grayson too. Just hope we can get 4-5 really good years out of him first. He was solid in 2021 Wells just has to be careful about his ability to give up the random home run if he's the closer. I think Wells could be a good choice if he can back to his form from the first part of the season.
Frobby
I will expect the worst and that Felix is out for the year. If that turns out to be wrong, I’ll be pleasantly surprised. if the season proceeds about as it has, there will be a save opportunity about once every 3 games. Figure 11 opportunities. An excellent closer would save 10 of those. A bad one would save 8. So, we’re probably talking about 2 wins at stake here. Obviously those could be the difference between winning the division or not, but not necessarily. I think this makes things harder for the team, but not impossible by any stretch. We’re lucky that we have some extra arms to throw at the problem, or will have them shortly. 2

So, this is not a huge loss. **Jumps off bridge** The solution is clear: sign Zack Britton as a free agent. Let it all come full circle. Shock
This sucks, it looks like he is done for the year. It’ll be interesting to see how they manage the bullpen with this terrible news.
