Interesting was not expecting McKenna to get optioned it must mean they don't think Mountcastle will be sidelined very long.

I was thinking that might be an option before Mountcastle injury.  He doesn't serve much purpose with Hicks, Mullins, Santander, and Hays all pretty healthy.  They not going to rest those guys right now and Hays, Mullins, and Hicks is a good defensive outfield so no need to sub for defense.

Yeah calling up Vavra just to 60 day IL him seems like a sneaky clever play to manipulate the rules snd make Kjerstad eligible for the playoffs.

Kind of sucks for Vespi. But I do like Baker returning if he can recapture what he had at the end of last season and the beginnings of this season (moonwalking celebrations and all).

Glad Vespi was optioned and not DFA. Good news hopefully that Mountcastle is not going on IL.

Is 13 a "good" number for Kjerstad?

Also possible they wait a couple of days on Mountcastle.  McKenna can always come back for an injury.

Surprised Mountcastle not going on the IL at this point. When a player hears a joint go “pop” it’s rarely something that can be fixed by rubbing a little dirt on it. Maybe they want another day or two for a second opinion or getting their ducks in a row.

IMO we should just pencil O’Hearn in at 1B for the duration, regardless of who we’re facing on the mound. It’s a SSS but he hasn’t been terrible against LH pitchers this season. I can’t see Kjerstad being a better option at the position, or at any position right now. Our best OF right now is Hays, Mullins, and Hicks with Santander at DH. Would Heston platoon w/Hays? Is that optimal?

Mountcastle still day-to-day. McKenna could come right back up if they put Mountcastle on the IL. My guess is that McKenna isn't going to physically go to Norfolk until they know for sure that Mountcastle isn't going on the IL.

With right-handed starters in the immediate horizon and the Orioles apparently comfortable with Hicks in center, there isn't much playing time available for McKenna, except for late-inning defensive upgrades.

Mountcastle not going on IL yet either means its not as bad as thought last night and he's day to day or they are still evaluating. Hopefully, he'll avoid the IL. If he does end up going on it, McKenna or Cowser will probably be called back up. Really wish we had a RH 1B that could replace Mountcastle if needed. Although at least for the next 4-5 games we are facing RH pitchers.
