You don't think his production including defense is comparable to Schwarber?

For whatever reason, offense pays better than defense.  So, you couid argue that they make similar overall contributions, but I don’t think Santander will get paid like Schwarber did.

I understand how fans can get attached to players, especially when they developed here, but at some point they have to clear space for MiL guys.

Elias either needs to trade young players or vets... someone has to go. The organization has a plenty of black eyes from being poorly run in the past. I don't want to see them getting another one by drafting well and leaving guys in the minors wasting away.

So, Swarber is at nearly 20 million per. Let’s say Santander can get 3 or 4 at 17 million per. I don’t think the Orioles will want to pay that and don’t think it’s in their best interest if the approach is to use the available money to early extend guys like Gunnar and Bradish

This years QO number:

I’m interested to see if Teoscar Hernandez gets a QO.  Bowden predicted that he’d get one and would accept it.  Whether either of those things happen has some relevance to decisions involving Santander.

Are we a “revenue sharing” team?  Because If I’m reading the QO definition right on MLB, then if we offer Santa a QO, he rejects, then signs with another team for $50 million+, then we would get a pick after the first rd, and comp pick A, selections.

I would guess we are a “revenue sharing” team since we get a comp pick each year.

Is that right?

Trading Santander is such a tough call, but being reminded that we actually have Cowser, and Kjerstad, ready to replace him makes me lean that we should trade him if we can get a stud reliever or SP option.

Pros:

- Cowser and Kjerstad are basically ready. Now it’s just time for them to battle it out in ST and for them to produce.

- This is peak performance value for Santa. Performance and health.

- If Cowser, and Kjerstad, absolutely fail, we could put O’Hearn out there temporarily.

- We could get back a stud bullpen option to help mitigate the loss of Bautista and possible regression from Cano/Coloumbe.

- We could get back long term rotation options and really extend our window.

- We don’t have to play the QO game next offseason.

Cons:

- We blow a chance at a WS because we have a huge hole in the MOO.

- We lose a vet, SH bat, with some playoff experience.

- Trading away an everyday player for a reliever that will only pitch in 60ish games. Relievers are volatile.

- Pitching prospects are even more risky.

- 2024 is our most valuable season in a long time.

- Cowser and Kjerstad could both flop.
