Mariners Trade (proposed)

Dan Sanchez: The Orioles seem to match up well with the Mariners on a bats-for-arms trade. Assuming Kirby and even Gilbert are off the table, what would it take to get one of Bryce Miller or Bryan Woo? Westburg straight up? Mountcastle or Hays plus Joey Ortiz?

I think we've continued to talk with this one and it's around the industry too.  What I think we've narrowed to is, assuming Miller/Woo are on the table only:

Westburg/Ortiz/Cowser for Miller/Woo (1 for 1, maybe small adds if necessary)

if Gilbert/Kirby are on the table, then you need more:

Mountcastle/Santander + Westburg/Ortiz/Cowser + Norby for Kirby/Gilbert

Is there one you'd prefer?  I actually prefer the Gilbert/Kirby side more, because we can open up space internally too.

Gilbert or Kirby. We can afford to pay a bit more so if they’re willing to part with one of them, let’s aim high.

If Mountcastle can help us get someone like Logan Gilbert, I'm all for it.  Coby Mayo can take Mountcastle's at bats.

I’d be surprised.., but an article said they are looking for a COF and a DH to replace Martinez.

I’d give them choice of Mounty, Hays, and Santander and Cowser for Miller and Gabriel Gonzalez.

I doubt Mounty is enough to move the needle on a Gilbert or Kirby trade, but he might on a Miller or Woo trade. They could slot him in as their primary DH and/or alternative between him and France at 1B and DH.

Seattle is highly unlikely to trade George Kirby or Logan Gilbert for anything less than an equally impactful bat with similar team control.

A trade of Jordan Westburg for Bryce Miller would be interesting because they were childhood friends and high school teammates. However, the Mariners are unlikely to leave a hole in their starting rotation without filling a void in the outfield.

Seattle might balk at one year of Anthony Santander at a projected $12.7 million but whom would the Orioles want for two years of Austin Riley at a projected 2024 salarly of $6.1 million? Would Emerson Hancock and a prospect outside Seattle's top 10 be enough?

IMHO Woo should be the target. The O's should be willing to eat a portion of Santander's 2024 salary and be willing to add Urias, a prospect or both to get him. I'm terrible at gaging relative trade value, so I'm not sure what is reasonable, but getting a young controllable starter who has had a bit of MLB success would be huge for the O's. Seattle needs a corner OF and a 3B.

I don't think Santander/Urias the needle enough.

If I was Elias I would:

1) Offer Ortiz for Woo.

2) If that doesn't work, offer Cowser for Woo.

3) If that doesn't work "maybe" offer Westburg for Ortiz (and that should be the mic drop offer). Tell Seattle to either accept or let the door hitcha where the Lord splitcha.
