He doesn’t play outfield.

Nope.  He doesn't play anything well other than DH.  I'd wager Mayo could become a solid 1B, like Mountcastle did, or eventually a decent OF with his big arm.  Doesn't seem like either position got much of a consideration before some recent games at 1B.

Norby can play OF though I'm not sure how well he actually plays it.  I'd still try Westburg out there; good speed, smart player.  While we know he's hurt now, we never gave Mateo a real chance in CF either, where he looked comfortable in very limited time.  For all the playing prospects in different spots, it feels like there's some opportunities missed.

If Adley, Mayo, Kjerstad, Basallo, and maybe others, all need DH reps, that's not going to work well going forward.

Sure.  For another team that doesn't have multiple MLB-ready prospects looking for roster spots.

True … but you realize this wouldn’t be a discussion if he hadn’t been so bad offensively

He's played sporadically. It's hard to get in a rhythm when you aren't playing every day. I hope Hays kills it for Philly.

Is that supposed to matter to me?  I have watched the guy everyday for 7 years and while he has had some good seasons, he’s not an everyday guy, especially right now.

By your definition, practically nobody’s an everyday guy.   That’s fine.  Hays lost his everyday job fair and square this year.  He’ll get more opportunity in Philly I think, and we’ll see how he performs.

Me too but at the end of the day he’s a .315-.325 OBP ball player. I was hoping the Orioles would move away from that type under Hyde and Elias but it’s back with force due to the 1st pitch swinging ratio.

Pache has a career .698 OPS vs LHP and he’s young. So that number includes the early part of his career. He should get better in a defined, niche role, as a RH CF vs LHP.

He’s an upgrade to McKenna.

Elias did a good job at the deadline of making the playoff roster snug with role players. Incremental improvements.

I hope we find a way to keep Pache around. He pairs with Mullins/Cowser/EBJ as a platoon partner in CF.

It certainly won't hurt Hays to have Harper and Bohm hitting right behind him in the lineup

Bad pitch to Ramirez there (who has been on fire), but I still really like how Dominguez has looked. Besides that, he got two weak pop outs and made Thomas look silly on a strikeout. His stuff is nasty.

Yeah I don’t know who scares me more Judge or Ramirez. They both just kill us.

Hate to see Hays hurt.  The trade was just resource allocation.  We needed to reallocate our abundance of OF options for a back end relief option that we were lacking.
