Milb shows him being optioned in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2019. not sure why he was able to be optione 4 times, if that is correct. also since 2019 hes been DFA 4 or 5 times. I think thats why they optioned Akin on Aug 1

If he is out of options, that is a tougher call. Still, I would think he will pass through waivers as a 34 year old who has given up runs in 5 of 7 appearances and has never been able to get lefties out.

Absolutely he might clear waivers, Irvin did, signed a Minor League and is Starter this afternoon. When Akin comes back from Paternity leave, depending on how Tate pitches, He could be the next roster move. And could very well wind up back in the Org.

Probably just tired.  We've been riding him hard.

Before Hyde used him on back to back games (Aug 15 and 16th) Burch had not pitched with less than 1 game rest, typically more, this season.

Hyde then ran him out three days straight. Since he was used on back to back games, Burch has allowed runs in each appearance.

Hyde has pitched him 4 times in the last 6 days.

Let's just say there are rented mules in Mexico worked less.

This is why the bullpen needs a guy that can go 2-3 innings when needed to protect the bullpen.

I believe one of those games was just 2 pitches though still not ideal to go 3 straight days but he hasnt thrown a ton of pitches it that span either and was on 5 days rest before they pitched him 3 days straight.

The three straight was a bit of a surprise (has Hyde ever done that before?). However, he threw only 3 pitches in the first of those appearances, so I suppose the Sigbot algorithm said he was still available. He had plenty of rest before and after that stretch.

He still had to warm up. Remember, regardless of how many pitches a pitcher throws in a game, getting him up and throwing takes a toll.

    • My reading after watching the video, Dean took a different route than the questions intent. It’s a pretty generic question “the team hasn’t been able to get on the same page the hitting defense pitching etc. anything that can change with 3 weeks remaining?” id guess the expected answer is something about getting guys back from IL and finish the season strong. For some reason Dean used it as an opportunity to go a different route and talk about who plays
    • I didn't know that pointing out a fact equated to crying,  but whatever.    I'm not taking up for how Elias has managed this team. I think they've made quite a few mistakes along the way that have diminished any long term window or pipeline.
    • It seemed like he was responding to “does anything need to change?” and giving a non-answer.  It would be weird if he thought the issue was roster/lineup/bullpen decisions because there aren’t really great alternatives.
    • It was a frustrating loss for sure.
    • Overall, Hyde is fine. I like him as the manager and I generally think people completely overrate what a manager is and does in today’s game. Most managers have the same in game strategies. The team is winning the last 3 seasons under him and he has pressed a lot of buttons correctly with pinch hitters this season. That said, the pitcher usage can be odd at times. Cano for 2 pitches last night is definitely head scratching. Now, that doesn’t mean we win or anything but I think it at least it increases your chances of winning. But they lost last night because of how much they expanded the zone. They could have scored way more runs in this series but they kept letting opportunities go by. One thing I noticed, especially with someone like OHearn, is almost as if they were trying to guide the ball to the monster. It’s an inviting target and wonder if they sometimes gets in their heads.
    • Thank you to Matt for providing the video.
    • And even with that, the Dodgers had a long stretch of being a 500ish team. They got a little healthier and starting winning more.
