Do we agree that developing Kjerstad RF, Holliday 2B and Mayo 1B/DH.......

1B is the one major weakness offensively where the O's should look to upgrade. Mountcastle simply isn't bringing enough production there, and you can't really count on O'Hearn over there either, though it would be smart to bring him back.

According to Elias Mayo's 3B defensive development is behind his 1B development.   To get his bat in the lineup 1B/DH seems like his quickest path the majors.

Can you share a link for this?  I missed that and would like to read the context.

Here's your list of FA 1Bs: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/09/previewing-the-2024-25-free-agent-class-first-base.html

I like Carlos Santana, despite his age, as he is solid on both sides of the ball. Would Bellinger be a crazy idea?

I'm pretty sure Bellinger is going to opt-in after his solid but unspectacular 2024.

    • I get it.    Following last year’s 101 win best record in the AL regular season, this year’s 23-6 spring training, the Tides 2023 AAA championship, our wealth of young talent and our first half of this season, expectations were rightfully optimistic.  The way this season ended was abrupt, unacceptable and a real gut punch.  Our inability to advance runners in both the playoffs and the second half of the season was extremely frustrating.  But I don’t feel we need to throw the proverbial baby out with the bathwater.  Certainly there are tweaks and adjustments to be made.  However I wouldn’t trade our future five year prospectus for any of the other 29 MLB organizations.  I was at the game one wildcard 1-0 shutout.  I was also at the last two 2014 ALCS games in Kansas City.  And while they all hurt tremendously, 2014 felt as if we had a window where the Royals pushed us out of the way, climbed through, slammed it shut and locked it.  This year KC may have cut in front of us, but that window is still wide open.  And with our front office and new ownership.  I don’t see any indication it will be closing anytime soon.
    • We need at least one spot with an optionable guy to rotate taxi squad guys in and out. Elias also typically likes to have a spot for waiver claims. Akin, Cano, and Bautista are technically optionable but we aren't going to want to lose them for 15 games at a time. So that is one, possibly two, guys from your list that we need to get rid of.   IMO, Perez is the first to go. I am 50/50 on Soto. I like him, but Elias could deploy the $8-9m elsewhere. McDermott and Young should see opportunities. Wells could be a factor at some point.  I know a lot of people want to add a high leverage arm. I tend to doubt that happens.  Maybe Elias will make a buy-trade for a young reliever with options rather than an established high leverage guy.
    • So one player was productive in 2024 which is 2hy he was acquired. The other did nothing but lose games for us and get sent to the minors if you can see the difference, I can’t help,
    • Next year's team needs a more dominant bullpen build because the rotation probably won't be as good as it was this year.  Bautista goes a long way, and Soto/Dominguez help, but they do need one more guy I think. I can see a pen of only returning guys being very good, if Bautista is himself, but you need an insurance policy for that.
    • I've never really noticed that (but I wasn't paying attention to it either), I just think Soto has better stuff and is much more likely to be a dominant bullpen arm for us next year than Perez.
