Make fun all you want, but in all seriousness have you ever heard Jim Palmer (no less) rave about any major league pitcher the way he was talking up Price last night? I know I sure haven't. Same with Dempsey. I mean the one quote Palmer even started out with "No disrespect to Brian Matusz but Price has the kind of arm you spend that kind of money on" (I forget how many millions he stated).

Anyway, this kid made the best Orioles hitters like Markakis and Jones look really bad flailing away and strikeing out on pitches that weren't even close to being strikes. His stuff is so dominant it reminds me of Vida Blue in his prime (I know many of you won't recall watching him but some of you do like Frobby).

At any rate, it is beyond clear that the Orioles have nobody on their major league roster, minor league pipeline, or even a potential number three draft pick that comes close to the talent and dominance of someone like Price or Strasburg. They are both on completely different planes when it comes to talent.

Dempsey said the same thing in his post game comments (paraphrasing) that what separates the Rays from the Orioles is exceptional players and talent like Longoria and Price who the Orioles simply have nobody of that quality on their roster nor in their organization.

Wonder what the poll would of been at the end of 2009? You know after his season that was a little worse than BMs current rookie season. Anyone have any guesses?

You could combine Matusz, Arietta, and Tillman as one hybrid pitcher (in theory) and they still wouldn't have the pure stuff that Price has. He is future HOF material (if he stays healthy) from what I have seen. On the same level as Strasburg. This lad appears ready to dominate the AL over the next 10 years. He is also the type of pitcher who can thrive in the playoffs and WS.

You know you did not address the issue that BM had a better first season but what's new. BTW he is a great looking young pitcher but let's see how it works

out. What was Strash's record after the allstar break?

Seriously, what is the point of a poll about whether the Orioles will "ever" have a pitcher as good as Price? We can all agree that Price is a stud. He was the number one overall pick in the draft, he started the all star game, and he may win the Cy Young. But "ever" is a long time. Are you prepared to say that Price will be better than Jim Palmer? Maybe he will be, but ask me in 15 years.

Price is likely to be better than any of the Orioles' current pitchers. Again, we'll know for sure in a decade or so. But whether it's true or not won't determine if the Orioles are successful in that period.

Overall, it's just a worthless poll.

And yet Markakis went 2-4 with a double off of him. If David Price is the best pitcher ever to play the game and Nick still got 2 hits off of him including that double that must make Nick Markakis the greatest player to ever put on a uniform! It's true!

    • Everything revolves around the health of the player. I think Gunnar has more. I think the collision with Mateo set Gunnar back and affected him in ways we will never know. I'm no mind specialist but Gunnar is young plays all out, and that had to bother him. I've watched that collision a number of times. No fault - just two players going all out and one is finished for the year. It just so happened that Gunnar got the yips and his batting went south soon thereafter. Maybe a coincidence but I think we will see a rejuvenated Gunnar next year and all stops are off.
    • I’m not so sure the bolded part is true. I think a lot of that last bit can have to do with small skills: situational hitting/running, above average play in close games, generally things that can be boiled down to “luck.” I didn’t see this years team as having a major talent discrepancy from the 2023 version.
    • As great as Gunnar is can’t assume he matches last year. That said I like the odds of the team as a whole matching what we did.
    • The real improvement of this team will come from within.    The 3-5 players they bring in from outside the org will supplement the roster…maybe put it over the top but the real improvement will come from those already in the org.
    • Yeah. -Would love to keep Burnes but I seriously doubt it. -I have a lot of faith in Adley.  - Holliday has huge ceiling even if he isn’t ready to be elite.  - doesn’t always work this way but the better your closer is tends to help rest of pen
    • Nice OP. Thanks for the effort. Like the chart. Surprised it hasn't received much response. You sum up a lot of what I hope for as well. I'd add: I think a full - healty year of Westy will be even more valuable. I think Gunnar has even more in the tank. I want - hope that Holliday can develop into the lead off hitter and OBP table setter we need. And, I so want Cowser to cut down on strike outs and continue to develop as a professional hitter. I think he has the potential to cover for the loss of Santander while Big K develops on the right side. A lot to hope for but I believe these youngsters have a lot of potential yet to tap. And oh yes - I want Mayo to make Roy and all of us proud! Thanks again for the effort! I look at pitching as if we have a base. I agree with your points 1 and 2.
    • Postgame Pedro Martinez and Dusty Baker critiquing Clase tripling up on his weaker pitch before the Carpenter heroics. 78% cutters on the season for Clase - the key PA went cutter-cutter-cutter-slider-slider-slider.
