Looks like we may have a cat fight between our female reporters.

I thought the same thing when during the winter meetings they each tweeted completely opposite information like two minutes apart. I tweeted "which one is it?" to both of them and Ghiroli tweeted back "believe who you want, I'm just reporting what I hear".

I'm guessing Jen said something to the effect of "LOL who carez orioles <.500 team people cant wait to get back to manhattan to have drinkz w adam laroche n mark sanchez ;)"

If they're not gonna offer Laroche a contract that is to his liking, then why are we not jumping on Lee like a cowboy at a rodeo? I'd say this man would probably sign tomorrow for 2/18. I really like the idea that someone had yesterday regarding Laroche. Give him 3 options : Offer a one year, a 2 year, and a 3 year offer, and let him choose. It might be possible that he would sign a 2 year deal which would make alot of people more at ease about handcuffing ourselves with a long term contract. MacPhail has even got me saying it "A long term 3 year deal", like that's a big risk. LOL

Because they're negotiating and they'd rather have LaRoche. They're trying to persudae LaRoche into accepting the deal that's on the table.

Take a breath, my man. Spring training doesn't start for 2 months.

1) Media reports have us offering a one-year deal. So that answers your question.

2) Why do you think he'd "sign tomorrow" for that deal?

3) Why should the Orioles offer double what they have to in order to sign him? Hawpe is close with the Padres, so the options for Lee and LaRoche are drying up quick.

4) You don't three years is a long time? I bet you did after Danys Baez's first season.

Three things are becoming painfully obvious.

1. Jen Royle gets her information from WNST.

2. WNST's source is Jen Royle.

3. We have spent the last week discussing Adam Frickin LaRoche who will never wear an Orioles uniform (and I am starting to see SG's idea of why this isn't a bad thing!).

Someone needs to clue Jen in that "talked about" is different than "offered" and "officially" is a lot different than "unofficially."
Well, I am as certain as one can be when I tell you that the Orioles have talked about or offered free agent first baseman Adam LaRoche a three-year deal worth $21 million - or have at least thrown those figures his way, officially or unofficially on paper. And today I read that ESPN's Buster Olney says the deal is worth a "reported $21M" as well.

You're talking about somebody who uses their work Twitter account as a means of picking fights with posters and makes sexual references as well. I don't dare ask how she got her job over there at MASN.

I truly feel that Lee will sign with the Rangers, and Laroche will sign with the Nats. If this is true, I already have allowed myself to come up with a "Plan D" in case we fail to land both. I feel Lee will sign a one year deal with the Rangers, and the Nats have shown that they will spend the money (unlike us), so I believe Laroche signs with them. If it goes down against us in this manner, I'd sign Thames and Branyan, and platoon them both between 1st and DH. Still increases pop in the lineup, gives you a lefty and a righty hitter, and both could be an upgrade at first. Most of all, it keeps Scott in the lineup in left field, and gives us leverage to package Pie, and a young arm for a starter. It has flaws, but what option that the Orioles are already preparing us for doesn't? And yes, I did think Baez was a bad deal one year in. Also, I think Lee would be blown away considering he feels he could only sign a one year deal with us. We come back at him with a 2 year deal, he'd be an Oriole tomorrow.

This is what confuses me. Why would they prefer him? I think they prefer Lee, but feel Lee is less likely to sign, unless he has no other options.

What are you basing this on? Most reports suggest they will re sign Vlad. If they do sign Lee, then Vlad will be available.

    • So it is different from last year? Last year the games were something like 3:00, 4:30, 7:00, and 8:30.   Have they said it will be different this year???
    • Me too. Driving 4 hours to have a father daughter date. Can't wait!
    • The discussion about Cle vs NYY is interesting. The Os always struggle at Cle and their BP is awesome but the starters are meh and so is the offense. I prefer to play NY. Worse pen, doesn’t run as much.  Not a bunch of contact hitters.
    • Bautista, if he is back to his old self, would be a big addition. Dominguez and Soto have to improve the walk rate. They certainly have swing and miss, but at a significant cost. Cano can throw up in the zone and get misses, but he is used so often he is rarely sharp. He is used to induce ground balls, and the sinker is fairly effective when he is tired.  Akin, Webb and Coulombe are getting some swing and miss. They are all above average in swinging strike percentage, according to FanGraphs. MLB average is generally around 11.2% from year to year, and Akin (second on the Orioles behind Grayson 13.6) is at 13.2, Dominguez 12.4, Cano 12.2, Soto 12.9, Webb 11.8, Coulombe is 9.9 and Cionel 9.5. In fairness to Coulombe (11.8) and Webb (13.7), they are higher over the last three years. They have not been healthy for a fair amount of this season and pitched through some things that made those numbers dip, perhaps.  Bautista was 18% in the same period of 2022-2024. He would be 11th in MLB in 2024. No other Oriole is in the top 100 in MLB. Grayson Rodriguez is at #120. It should be noted that Andrew Walters is at 18.8, ranking 7th. He was our unsigned 18th round pick in 2022. All of that aside, I am not sure the pen is structured the same as in recent years. There may be some moves there. Or, perhaps it is like you wrote, and they focus on Soto and Dominguez making adjustments to having more command, decreasing the walks. Those two are getting a little expensive as well. I guess we’ll see.
    • How much different? They sat Judge yesterday, they threw their playoff starters for 5+ innings yesterday and today. They are also playing for the best record in the AL. They aren't mailing it in.
    • It’s not just the O’s. I’ve checked the Dodgers who have similar prices and they have a lot of upper deck NLDS games 2 & 3 available. Same for the NLCS. yanks still have seats available also. — In general, I’m sure alot of fans are just gonna wait till the day of to grab tickets.
    • That makes no sense. If they had to win their current series would have looked much different.
