Predict the Playoffs/Who are you rooting for?

First, any predictions for this year's postseason?

Here are mine:

WC: CUBS over Pirates, YANKEES over Astros

ALDS: BLUE JAYS over Rangers, ROYALS over Yankees

NLDS: DODGERS over Mets, CUBS over Cardinals

LCS: DODGERS over Cubs, BLUE JAYS over Royals

WS: DODGERS over Blue Jays

Kershaw/Greinke lead the Dodgers to the championship.

Now perhaps more interestingly, who will you be rooting for?

For me:

1) Pirates / 1a) Cubs. Whoever wins the NLWC will be my team of choice. Two exciting young teams who have mostly likeable players.

2) Astros / 2a) Rangers. I find both these teams fairly likeable, and neither franchise has ever won a World Series. Will be rooting for both Texas teams hard in the AL playoffs.

3) Dodgers. Reasons to root against them: Their payroll sets off alarms in my underdog ideology. Reasons to root for them: They haven't won the WS in a while. And more importantly, they aren't the Royals, Cardinals, Mets, Blue Jays, or Yankees.

My prediction:

AL WC: ASTROS over the Yankees

NL WC: CUBS over the Pirates

ALDS: BLUE JAYS over the Rangers, ROYALS over the Astros

NLDS: METS over the Dodgers, CARDINALS over the Cubs

ALCS: ROYALS over the Jays

NLCS: CARDINALS over the Mets

WS: CARDINALS over the Royals

Comments:

I think the Blue Jays smack around the Rangers staff, but then get stymied by the Royals BP. Also, I think the Royals unfathomable post-season luck of bloops and BS hits continues again this year, but like the last, fails them in the big series. The Yankees have looked cooked for the last few weeks. The Astros are one year too early. But next year...

Who I want:

I'd be down for the Rangers, Astros, Pirates, Cardinals, or Mets to win it all. I can't stand the Jays or the Royals. Dodgers...don't like teams that try to buy it all. Cubs...call me mean, but I kind of want the curse of the billy goat to hold up. Just for the sake of baseball lore.

AL WC: Astros over Yankees

NL WC: Pirates over the Cubbies

ALDS: Jays over the Rangers, Royals over the Astros

NLDS: Mets over the Dodgers, Pirates over the Cardinals.

ALCS: KC Over the Jays

NLCS: Pirates over the Mets

WS: Pirates over the Royals

I think it's Pittsburgh's year to win it all. Biggest road block is St. Louis, but I think they can manage. Wouldn't mind the Royals winning it all either.

I think even though they are a pretty mediocre team, Houston wins tonight and takes out the heavily favored Royals (giving KC a little taste of what they gave us last year).

Overall, Texas wins the AL Pennant (beating Toronto and Houston in the process). New York wins the NL over St. Louis, Texas wins the World Series, because recent history has shown that being favored and really good on paper means nothing in terms of winning a title.

I'm rooting against teams. KC and Toronto have to go. Rooting for Houston right now. Maybe Texas or St. Louis later.

Close to mine, but I was for Cubs. Still am. I have no feeling either way with Mets vs. Dodgers. I want Cubs and Astros to get to the WS. These are just my desires and not any head to head prediction.

    • 1:2 is good.  Elite is a player like Arraez who is 1+:1.

    • Was reading Wiggins write up on ESPN. He appears to be more of a home run threat than Koolaid. He had a pick 6 each of the last 2 years.
    • Starting point has changed.  Given the fact he has approx 1/7th of his season in the books at 1.139, to OPS just .780 for the season, he'd have to drop off to under .730 the rest of the way.  That sort of drop off wouldn't be acceptable to me. I'd like him to OPS .800 the rest of the way for roughly .850 for the season.  The more they use him in a platoon role, the better I think that number might be.
    • Can I ask how you timed it vs the DVR?  Did you use a stopwatch or count click with pause/FF, or something else?
    • I can’t fathom why anyone would want a Tanner Scott return. In 10 innings, he is 0-4 with a 1.78 whip. He was maddening before, and now he’s older. But I wonder if the Red Sox would part with Justin Slaten? He’s been pretty outstanding. Yeah, only 8 innings, but we hired Yohan Ramirez, and he’s been a catastrophe in 10. Yes, I know he’s a rule 5, and the Bosox are in the East. And their pitching is pretty thin, too. But they know they aren’t going anywhere in this division, and they might think getting a good return for a Free Rule 5 guy might be worthwhile.
    • This draft unfolded weirdly.  First with the *nix guys getting taken early and then how no defensive players got taken all draft, and then a bunch of teams reaching for OTs.  I'm pretty happy with how the draft unfolded because I think we got a player that I expected to be gone by the teens or early 20s.  I don't know what we're doing with our OL but hopefully we can maybe trade up from 62 to pick someone up.
