Is it really that difficult? Look at Mom, look at Dad, maybe see how tall his Uncle Sal is... I knew I was going to be 6'+ long before I was 6'+

LOTS of times Mom is 5'2, Dad is 5'9 and 16 year old son hits 6'2 his senior year. Lots of variables in genetics. Besides you won't see scouts predict how tall kids will get very often, it's usually if they have room to build onto their frame as they mature.

From today's KLaw chat...

Sorry I don't have a link. I was typing this from off my phone.

Who is the terrible washed up players they signed this offseason?? 82 year olds?? What the hell is he talking about and why does that matter?

Yea really it is that difficult. Especially for a 17 - 19 YO kid. Genetics give you a probable range not the outcome. Things can stop growth early or make it continue later. Most of these situations are detectable by Doctors with the right test and equipment. While for a low $ signing it would not be a big deal, but for big money base on a 17 YO's projection I think it would be stupid not to use the science.

The frustrating thing is, I kind of agree with him. And I still think he's an ass.

Seriously, I really think he's just trying to be a Jim Rome-type in order to be somebody. I mean outside of the die hard baseball guys like us, no one knows or cares about Keith Law. His clear bias towards DD means I truly could care less what he has to say at this point. The funny thing is this guy has been clamoring about getting back into baseball yet snarky little immature comments is about the worse way to ever get a job within the close knit baseball world.

I guess he's getting what he wants though. For some reason people pay attention to his chats like he's some kind of expert on every organization and on every player signed in the international market. Like Stotle said, I more interested in what his connections ay much more than him, but now I have to question those motives as well because he's clearly not able to stay professional.

Saying all of that, how in the world can you say you kind of agree with him? Who are the washed up players he signed, who are the 82-year olds, and why do you think the Astros will compete before the Orioles?

The 82 year olds are the FO people Duquette's brought in. Frankly, it concerns me a bit, too, though his actual, on-the-ground scouts are younger.

He's taking a shot at him bringing in older people who have been in the game a long time instead of bringing in young people just breaking in.

Didn't he interview for a position recently?

Now you have my interest. Why would it shock you??? I know these studies are available and useful. Is Baltimore alone in ignoring these studies or is all of baseball stupid when handing out money to kids?

It would run counter to everything I know about Baltimore's "process" in recent years, and if such a dramatic shift were to take place under Duquette I'd be shocked to see it implemented so quickly, and in a foreign region.

Is this something that some organizations would do?
