My final answer is JJ Hardy. I don't think he can consistently be the guy we saw in the first 1/2 of last year, and I do think by this trade deadline we'll probably be really kicking ourselves that he wasn't traded for Wheeler (though many of us already do). I hope I'm wrong.

Reynolds, Reimold and Markakis (probably just because of salary) are the others that get me the most. The first two are one-dimensional players whose defense will end up hurting us nearly as much as their power helps us, IMO. I prefer players who add value on defense and generally are better able to make contact. Nick just hasn't impressed me for years now. I know he's a fine player, but not worth the money.

Britton and Arrieta are not overrated in my own mind, but if others think they're #2 type starters, I suspect they might be overrated in general.

I think Jones is underrated. Wieters is one of the top catchers in the game.

Matusz. We are forbidden from discussing trade possibilities involving this guy b/c of his performance during a couple months in 2010. By July 2012, his value could easily drop to zero. NOTE: Bergy looked pretty good in 2010 also (just sayin).

He looked good until he took that line drive off his leg.... now he's lost his sinker..:slytf:

IMO, most overrated is Jones.

People can bash Reynolds but he improved his BA last season reduced SO's even switching to a tougher league/division and still hit 37 HR's

Surprised to hear Frobby say Arrieta, seemed last year you were more of a defender of his?

No, I do like Arrieta, and I feel that he was a better pitcher in 2011 than he was in 2010. That said, his relatively high BB rate and his tendency to throw a lot of pitches limit his upside somewhat. So I just don't think it is clear that he's going to be better than Matusz or Hunter. It may depend more on them than it does on him.

Adam Jones. Defense doesn't match the hype, poor on-base skills that at times negate any power potential, and the whole package just doesn't match the hype. A lot of people over the years have said he's better than Markakis, and I've never bought into it. Talent wise, yes, but even at his worst, Nick just does little things so much better than Adam that to me make him more valuable. Plus, some people are starting the "pay the man" stuff with Jones again, and he simply is not the kind of guy I hand a big extension over. Nice guy, nice player, but just not the cornerstone that everyone seems to think he is.

:agree:
