Is Everyone Really So Depressed?

Quite simply the Orioles are staring down their 15th straight losing season and they are coming off an offseason where they not only did not sign or acquire and impact guy but they also managed to tell one of their biggest fan bases that they don't matter. So yes. my excitement is an all-time low. This is the first time I can remember that seeing guys warming up in Floridian elicited no response from me. I'm hoping that changes as things get going but I'm pretty down about this organization right now. I'm sure part of it is how the orioles handled the Hangout after all these years, but its also the fact that even if I try to look at the best case scenario I don't see the Orioles breaking .500 and I certainly don't see them competing. I've always found a silver lining at the beginning of every season, but this year I just can't find one. Who knows, maybe that means they'll actually out perform my very low expectation instead of their annual under performing, worse case scenario ways.

Personally I think I'm going to focus myself as a baseball fan this year and enjoy baseball as a whole between MLB and the minors.

I feel very similar, Tony.

I was watching the MLB Network yesterday and sat there staring at my opening day tickets. My frustration grew. It is easy for me to focus my resentment on the owner these days. This is our team, and I wish he'd give it back to us.

Does this mesh with your analysis?

Below are the bonus pools for each club, along with how much it spent last year on draft bonuses, both in the first 10 rounds and in total.

Yup. A big issue with past "amounts spent" was comp picks -- that process has changed.

Personally I am EXTREMELY excited. I think we definitely have a lot of question marks are far as pitching is concerned in regards to if the young guys can live up to their hype and if Wada and Chen can be as effective in the MLB as their earlier careers but I have optimism about the pitching staff we could have. Jake, if he can stay healthy, can win 15 games and if Britton can be consistent could do the same. After those two we have about 83728272 pitchers at ST to fill 3 other spots (not that those two are locks, just figuratively speaking). On top of that I think we could see breakout years out of AJ, Weiters, and Chris Davis offensively and if you can get the usual out of Nick and JJ, a decent year out of whoever ends up in LF & 2B,and Reynolds can bring the average up a little bit and cut down the errors you could very well have a solid team. I know that leaves a lot of question marks going in to the year but that doesn't mean we have nothing to look forward to! I can't wait for things to get going! Let's Go O's!

If this team ends up being as bad as the "Negative Nancy's" crying reflects, it's going to be a LONG season on the Hangout with thread after thread after thread of negative posts, comments and remarks.

Yee Haw!

In all honesty, and with no negativity, I ask you this: realistically, what else is going to happen here? Is there a method of being optimistic when faced with what we've been given as an on-field product for 2012? I am generally a chipper guy but the Orioles bring me down time and time again. I love this team and I don't like what I am seeing. It's like being in love with a girl who keeps dating the wrong man who is abusive and doesn't treat her right and never will. They get married and you watch this woman lose her spirit, good looks and hope for the future. You keep waiting for the divorce that will never come. That's like being an Orioles fan. Many are waiting for the end of Angelos' ownership of the team but its not happening. This is a travesty if there ever was one. I don't know how anyone could look at this team and kick back and think, "y'know, things are gonna be alright."

This team is going to be horrible. It's not negativity, its the truth.

Is it really that different than the last 3 years?

Yes it is...because there was more hope that the young pitching would be better over the last few years than it is now.

On top of that, the teams in the AL(not just the division) have gotten better while the Orioles have stayed the same or gotten worse.

So yes, its completely different.

A good year by the young pitchers and a strong showing from our prospects would change this but as of right now, this is as low as it has been since this losing streak started.

I thought his contract wasn't voided, just delayed by a month. Or did something change recently?

I have heard both. I am also unsure, if it is being delayed, if another team could come in and sign him.

My guess is that this is more of a slap on the wrist from MLB and not a kick in the groin.

Because there is more to this community than the Orioles. Why do you think you should be telling a long time Hangouter that he shouldn't post here? Last time I check, you don't pay the bills around here so keep your thoughts on who should and should not post and how they are supposed to feel to yourself.
I didn't tell him what to do, try reading that post again. I asked a question. If he is uniterested in the Orioles. why post in the Orioles talk section? It's a question. I don't care about basket ball or hockey, so you wont find me posting on basketball or hockey message boards.
