Me either. There has to be more.

Official Text now. My.

Dark magic aside, I've become convinced that the Orioles are the continuing victims of a decade-long prank whereby the daily Warehouse newspapers have been stolen/replaced by those issued a year ago, and the TV's have been locked into a loop that plays nothing but Ancient Aliens and Lifetime movies.

Think about it.

Not a bad theory except it doesn't explain the softball player from New Zealand.

I see I'm late to the party (I was having dinner). This is certainly a head-scratcher. As has been intimated, there are lesser players on the squad. Once I read the initial reply from Duquette, I knew it meant absolutely nothing just because of how it was couched.

Count me as one that doesn't see the big deal about Simon. He has been decent on occasion but never to make me think he is a real keeper. I'm no scout but he hasn't put up exciting numbers and his stuff seems to be hit pretty well despite an upper 90s fastball. Maybe he's just not that good?

Because he has been injured and bad. I guess they did not want to owe him the money if on the DL. He said is his book. It's a numbers game that is not Sabrmetrics.

So they're concerned that no one would pick him up or make a deal? Therefore they just let him go so they wouldn't have to pay him?

This doesn't make any sense. It's not like he's making a huge amount of money, anyway.

Has he been really that awful this spring? I'd hate to see a guy with that arm just GIVEN away.

    • People are being a bit ridiculous with the holier than thou takes criticizing a little humor. I am not saying what happened couldn’t cause a significant concussion, but it would be a bit of a fluke if it did. Mullins barely hit him with the bat and he had a helmet on. The fact that it was in the back of the head did make him more vulnerable, but this wasn’t the type of thing you see and think he was lucky to be alive.  Guys have probably hit their heads harder on the top of the dugout or on the fence making catches.  And note this comes from someone whose son has suffered severe concussions and who is well aware of the dangers associated with them. In short, people need to lighten up a bit on guys like Roy.  It was a little gallows humor.
    • Yeah, you read that wrong. LA2 is one of my favorite posters here and he knows it. No harm, no foul. If you aren't familiar with the game threads, it doesn't matter what the team is doing, people complain about it and people did make that same joke in the game thread long before Roy said it here. Game thread in summary - when the O's are not doing well, it's insufferable, when they are doing well, it's mildly less insufferable. There, that wasn't hard. I'd appreciate it if you didn't assume I'm throwing shade at people. I'll leave that up to you to do, you're really good at it.
    • Comp a. Like Gunnar, and beavers…
    • Wasn't Westburg a 2nd round draft pick?  It's a little early to judge last year's draft.
    • Before Elias.  They generally haven’t missed on a 1st round or 1st round comp pick with the position players.   I trust they’ll make a good decision at #22 and #32.   Their track record in rounds 2-4, particularly on college position players and specifically the last three drafts is suspect.
    • Anyone want to guess what it would take to get Crochet from the White Sox?  We could send SG over to ask politely and remind them of what they missed out on Ortiz.  I'm sure that wouldn't stir up a hornet's nest.
