Would have much rather kept Irvin in the system over Burch Smith or Kimbrel. I hated when they DFAd him the first time, and disliked it a second time. It wouldn't shock me to see Cole Irvin have a longer, effective career from here on out than Trevor Rogers, for example. -

I understand keeping Kimbrel as a face-saving move. But why Smith? Is he a guy you want to use with anything on the line? Is there a belief he can be made over to help after this year? -
At this point Povich has almost as many innings in Baltimore (69.0) as at Norfolk (77.2), so I’m guessing they won’t consider him a candidate. McDermott definitely is, despite his one game in Baltimore and subsequent injury. He still leads our minor leaguers in strikeouts despite all the time he’s missed! He did win the award last year and I don’t know if they want to double up. Young should be a candidate, and I’ll get into him after he makes his final start of the year. -
Good guy who was a good Oriole. I can think of a few other pitchers I would have rather DFA'd. -

I liked him. He's pitched some great games while he was here. And, yeah, probably goes 6 or 7 against us in the final series. -
