More importantly, O's inducting Rich Dauer into the Hall of Fame Saturday!

.

I remember reading an article about Dauer in The Sporting News in the spring if 1977.

The title of the article was, "The Orioles Think they Struck it Rich in Dauer."

I believe Dauer led the International League (AAA league for Rochester Red Wings) in hitting in 1976. I remember being very excited for his rookie year after we lost Grich in free agency. Unfortunately his hitting didn't translate at the MLB level. Still, he was an ace defender, played almost every game, and was a solid contributor on some really good teams.

I was going to say my most memorable Dauer moment was him leading off the 7th inning of game seven of the 1979 World Series and getting a double to start a rally that fizzled, but that didn't happen at all. I must have been thinking about him leading off the 8th but he didn't get a hit. The O's did rally in that inning but failed to score. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/BAL/BAL197910170.shtml
