How is that making a case? They are just declaring something. I can go ahead and say "All Elephants are red." Did I just make a case?

You don't honestly believe, after the last one that had the audacity to disagree with the owners was fired, that any arbiter will find against the owners do you?

And like I said, Amphetamine use is still winked at, as long as you are not stupid it's fine.

Same article, another article.

The arguments that testing work are true—players have been caught, and Selig's assertion that the game is cleaner than ever, via TomHaudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, is also true. In fact, taking positive tests from 104 to six in the space of a decade is the kind of roaring success that should be celebrated.

Also, drug use that is winked at, isn't a false positive.

Are you contending the process which now involves blood testing as well as urine isn't an improvement over the testing before 2001?

How much of an advantage does steroids really give a player?

I have seen player testimonials that the effects of uppers were substantial.

You think adderall is just as performance enhancing as steroids? I genuinely have no idea about the effects of it. I mean, I know what it does but I really have no clue how much it can help a baseball player. I'll have to do some research.

No I said that, in the case of a false positive you will now severely reduce the income of the victim, and the owner's past actions have practically insured that no player will ever win an appeal again.

I also said that it is laughably easy to legally get around the band on amphetamines.

First you have to quantify how much steroids help. Opinions vary pretty widely on that one.

Lots more in the piece to include more on greenies and steroids but I like this quote.

When I stood on the mound while on Adderall, everything faded away except for the catcher’s mitt. No crowd noise, no distractions. It was almost like being in the Matrix. Although you were sped up, everything slowed down.

Seems helpful.

I must admit the first thing that came to mind when Tommy Hunter hit the 1st batter Middlebrooks was Jim Johnson.

It's been a reoccurring theme for us the last 3-4 years hasn't it where the closer was part of the opening day decision. Hunter didn't impress me while I was watching. If he can't mix in some breaking or off-speed stuff, it's not going to be pretty.

    • They’ve added a handful of additional receivers in the UDFA class https://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/rumor-mill-ravens-undrafed-free-agent-tracker-2024-nfl
    • Didn't see today's game in it's entirety but I will say this.  I feel 100% more confident with Mateo playing second and turning  a DP rather than JH right now.  JH will be fine there.  In time.   But even forgetting his hitting, D wise he just isn't there yet.   And yes I know the metrics say he is fine.  But to me, using the eye test, he looked very shaky fielding and throwing,
    • I like Kevin.  He is constantly improving.  My only beef is that he doesn't seem to understand that a foul ball isn't always out of play.   A ball can be hit foul, but still be in the field of play.
    • My preferred day 3 WR would have been Troy Franklin, but he apparently had a bad combine on positional drills (which might have been because he had the flu.)  And he got picked by Denver pretty early.   Devontez Walker is kind of intriguing.  He's 6'2", barely.   A bit on the skinny side but ran in the mid-4.3s.  His route tree is pretty limited, mostly short quickouts/slants and go/post routes. But he's really good at the deep routes.  Sort of a discount DK.  He's reported to have good hands and good deep ball tracking ability as well.  We have to see how that translates in the pro game.
    • Adley looks way more energized and McCann is veteran catcher who is good defensively and handles the pitchers well.  Doesn't really make sense to wear Adley out when the O's are using him at the top of the lineup.
    • Just seems like a more controlled swing from the right side, shorter, flatter.
    • He was signed in the Covid year when they only had a 5 round draft, which is why he was undrafted.  Was showing promise bur tore his UCL in 2022.  Pitched a little last year, this is his first full year back.  Nice to see the good outing.
