Would he still get his salary? I'm confused about how his contract works.

For those of you wanting Miller and Cruz back, you do realize how expensive that is going to be right? Cruz is already projected to get 4/48 to 4/52 and Miller is likely to get something like 3/30 to 4/36.

Oh yeah he has a guaranteed contract. The Os paid him almost $400k for the month of August in the minors.

Yeah... Webb should definitely start in the pen next season. 3.83 ERA (0.7 WAR) but peripherals suggest his ERA should've been closer to 3.00. Solid 6th/7th inning guy.

We own Webb through next season. I do not believe he is option-able.

So, Hunter's gone and what happened to Webb? Does he have another option or is he gone too? We still have to pay him, right?

The thing I don't really love about your bullpen is that there won't be much depth in case there's an injury.

We can't afford that and can't afford another mistake. Despite his overall numbers, if I was going to spend that money, I would do it on someone more consistent and younger

Enough with the TOR starter crap! We need the ability to score more runs. Our offense was inept in 2012 and 2014 playoffs. We need the ability to create runs. We need more obp, more speed, more reliable hitting.

I am all for adding another TOR starter. But I agree with your assessment of the kinds of hitters we need 100%. More OBP, speed and versatility (ability to hit to all fields, lay down a bunt, etc.).

I actually hope we somehow resign Nick.

Then I wouldn't mind seeing us get Wieters restablished and then trade him midseason for two younger pieces who match the OBP, speed thing - to balance our lineup.

Groom Joseph into the starter role. Keep Hundley as backup.

I would try to extend Davis in the offseason to a reasonable deal. I think his value has dropped. Good time to buy low.

Sign V. Mart for DH. Plant Lough in left.

Take our chances with planting Schoop at 2nd... or try signing someone like Hector Olivera, the 29-year-old Cuban who might be available

And I think we need some better bench players if at all possible - guys with more power/speed/something. It seems like we have a bench full of versatile mediocrity.

I could go on and on. But why? I have months to stew over all this.

Offense should be pretty similar if not better next season. More production from Davis, Jones, Wieters, Manny, Schoop, Hardy, and De Aza for the whole year. Will lose some production in possibly losing Cruz and Pearce most likely regressing to what he was in 2013 which is still a valuable player. He could still be an .850-.900 OPS player though I guess. Nothing was flukey about what he did he was legitimately awesome this year. Would still be a 3ish win player if he can OPS over .750 and play the same quality of defense. Personally, I don't think he will be as good as this season but I don't think he will drop of that much. I think he will still be a very good hitter (.850+ OPS).

I just think the Orioles can lay in the weeds and see what happens. I just don't see an NL team playing him 145-150 games a year in the outfield, it would diminish his contributions. The Yankees have 50 players that need to DH some, Boston still has Ortiz, maybe they could play Cruz in LF for a year and then if Ortiz is gone move Cruz to DH. Some teams like Tampa and Oakland don't have much money. It only takes one team but maybe he doesn't get a crazy deal. I would be very surprised he goes to an NL team and if I am correct that severely limits his market.

Pearce had a great year but I don't think he is an everyday player. I would platoon him in LF with DeAza and he could get some bats at 1st and DH of course. I don't think we can replace Nick or Cruz in house. I still wonder if DD can pull off a trade with one of our excess starters.

Off the top of my head, I believe in terms of WAR/game he was the best player in baseball this year. He was incredible. In 2013 he had a .775 OPS. If he OPS .775 next season while playing the same level of defense he is a ~4 win player. You have to at least give him a shot after the season he just had. As I said earlier, nothing was lucky about what he did. He changed his stance and he's been a different hitter ever since. At worst he can take Young's role from this season. In all likelihood he's a good everyday player. Upside, there's a chance he can compile a 5+ WAR again.

I'd much rather sign Morales than Martinez. Morales and Martinez from 2010-2013 were very similar. Martinez's HR/FB% jumped 10% from the last 2 seasons while Morales suffered an awful drop in BABIP even though his balls in play percentages were similar to his career norms. Morales won't cost a pick and will come much cheaper. I bet he'd love to come here and rebuild his value on a 1 year deal like Cruz did.
