Why Mike Wright Has Closer Potential (Update: To Start for Baltimore 5/17)

My memory isn't what it used to be, but didn't the Orioles pitching staff dominate in the second half of last season? Isn't that how we went from 30-30 at one point to a 12 game division win? Where exactly would Wright have fit in, and who would be have replaced?

This seems like misguided anger. Its like CoC and I demanding justice for Nolan Reimold! Hell, Pearce isn't hitting, give Nolan a chance! :D

Might not have been the best comparison. We might be in trouble if anyone uses advanced search with our names, Reimold and Pie. ;)

You are right, it was mid-June, when they turned it on.

Gausman was ahead of Wright in the food (depth) chain.

I remember when another Oriole pitcher made his career major league debut against the Angels in 2008.

That kid (Chris Waters) had never pitched higher than the AA-level (Bowie) in his life before that game.

He pitched one game in Norfolk in 2007.

I was hoping Wright got called up to pitch in a setup role but it's clear he was brought up to provide innings in late and middle relief and, in this case, provide an emergency start. I don't see him getting past 5 today.

I think he has a better shot at it then a healthy Norris would.

Ha! Never felt so good to be so wrong! We needed a start like that.

I wonder if the board consensus, including myself, regarding him being a future closer wasn't a bit premature. I like his varying speeds with the FB which seems to allow him the ability to dial up added velocity when he needs it in certain counts. His secondaries look to be effective enough to work off the FB if not plus pitches, but he throws strikes with them.

Yes, it's one start, but is anyone pining for more Bud after that?
