Its more like 12 million, if you count incentives.

Which assumes he is healthy and starts, a lot. Can't find any details on the incentives yet but I would assume he has to carry a full starting load to get hia $12M. Which means he probably is worth the contract. $7M is the how much he is owed even if he sucks.

Big missed opportunity here. Fister was affordable and signed for 1 season. Not good.

If he's the Fister from 2015, then, no big deal.

Now that you mention it ...... if we had signed Fister, he would have been the 3rd starting pitcher on the staff who had success in 2012, 2013, and 2014, but had a bad year in 2015.

As it is, we already have 2 starting pitchers (Chris Tillman and Miguel Gonzalez) that we are hoping that their most recent season (2015) was an anomaly.

I wonder if part of the situation here is that if you pay $7m or more for a starter you are basically inking his name into the rotation... And we're not convinced that Fister, Latos, or even Gallardo are automatically better than a competition among existing candidates. Probably better, but not automatically better than the guy that pitches well enough in ST to win the spot.
