2016 MLB Draft

Agreed. Having played with Reed for a few years in high school and scouted him when Florida came to South Carolina the past few springs, I can tell you first hand he's more of an athlete than a baseball player in my opinion. That's not to say he couldn't develop into a solid all around player with pro instruction but I've just never been sold on his ability to hit consistently at the next level.

What are your thoughts on Reynolds he is the guy I like because he has some speed and solid line drive hitter. I could see him ready for majors by 2018. He doesn't have the prototypical corner outfield power but not sure he athletic enough for center in the majors. He does remind me of Markakis type though and switch hitter.

I'm a fan. Has always shown a solid hit tool and I actually think he has the frame to grow into some more home run power down the road in pro ball. Even if he's just a 10-15 homer guy, I still think he'll hit enough doubles in the gap to post requisite slugging numbers for a corner spot if he ends up there. But, I think he can handle center because he's an above average runner and gets greats jumps. Good track record of success at Vandy. Three year starter. Has made big strides with his plate discipline both last summer in the Cape and this spring. Not a sexy pick but I think he's one of the more polished bats in the class and would be a great choice.

No clue without numbers in front of me but I would say if your organization is lacking in those guys common sense says you draft a few who have a solid history of getting on base.

I would say that with the attrition rate you see in prospects you go BPA unless you are punting a pick for pool money.

How did drafting for OBP work out last year?
Does it even translate from that level?

Maintaining a high OBP is the one thing Stewart has been able to do -- .215/.376/.349. Clearly it doesn't make up for his other deficiencies to date.

I mentioned the uptick in walk rate. Honestly 376 doesn't make me that happy considering his experience and the level of competition.

When he was drafted last year I expected he would be in high A by now.

You've piqued my interest. Does he have Markakis' glove and arm?

Slate would know a bit more it sounds but I have watched Reynolds a fair share over years being a big sec person and I would say better speed and worse arm. He is switch hitter as well. He has pretty big frame at 6'4

Find a way to draft Buddy Reed Jr. Who plays at the U of

Florida and is from Maryland. Oh wait we gave up that chance when we picked up the garbage. That's going to hurt for years.

I'm not going to pretend to know if this guy is going to be good or not, but the two mocks I've seen have him at 30 and 39.

HS bats. College pitchers. Just wish we had more picks to increase our chances.

This. With the high attrition rate of prospects, the best way to build up a thin farm system is accumulate picks. The more lottery tickets you buy, the better chance of winning. It's interesting to note that in October last year there was a decent chance we would have ended up with 4 first round picks and 3 second round picks. It's disappointing to now have only 1 first round and 2 second round picks.

And one of the second round picks is unprotected. If it was me it would go to a signability pick to save some money to use on other targets.

Only makes sense if you can get a better talent than what you would have gotten with the 2nd round pick. Why pass up the top player on your board in the 2nd round to hope another player is there later to take a flier on?

Because if you take the BPA with an unprotected pick it tilts the balance of power in favor of the player and his agent.

Obviously a plan should be in place to make proper use of any monies saved.
