Yeah, a totally reasonable question. I initially looked at such a move (from the Yanks interest perspective) as an opportunity to unload some large contracts in advance of the season's end, but even that doesn't make much sense. The Yanks could just negotiate with Wieters after the season if they felt he was an upgrade over McCann (defensively?)

I would like to use Wieters to secure some sort of pitching upgrade if possible, though maybe your "Why would [insert team name] want a half season of Wieters" would apply to almost all teams...

Hopefully, his career doesn't end up like Chad Bradford. Another side arm specialist who was great until injures, then career over. It was the first thing I thought of when the O's signed him to the extension.
