Gordo wasn't the only poster that stated Flaherty wasn't going anywhere.

Gordo got there first, but you both get credit for nailing it. I got thrown off by DD's comment about Pearce allowing 13 pitchers. Looks like Ubaldo is going to have to start pitching some actual bullpen innings.

LHP WADE MILEY AND INF/OF STEVE PEARCE REPORT TO THE ORIOLES

The Orioles today announced that LHP WADE MILEY and INF/OF STEVE PEARCE have reported to the club and RHP ODRISAMER DESPAIGNE and RHP TYLER WILSON have been optioned to Triple-A Norfolk.

Miley, 29, was acquired by the Orioles from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for LHP ARIEL MIRANDA on July 31. He went 7-8 with a 4.98 ERA (62 ER/112.0 IP) over 19 starts with the Mariners this season. Over 157 career Major League games (153 starts), he has posted a 56-54 record with a 4.07 ERA (427 ER/944.1 IP) and 728 strikeouts. The left-hander spent the 2015 season with the Boston Red Sox, leading the club in wins (11), starts (32), innings pitched (193.2 IP), and Quality Starts (17). Originally selected by Arizona in the first round (No. 43 overall) of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, Miley established Diamondbacks rookie records for wins (16), starts (29), and innings pitched (194.2 IP) in 2012. A 2012 National League All-Star, Miley went 38-35 with a 3.79 ERA (269 ER/638.2 IP) over 106 games (102 starts) across four seasons with Arizona from 2011-14. He will wear No. 38.

Pearce, 33, was acquired by the Orioles from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for minor league C JONAH HEIM on August 1. He hit .309/.388/.520 (63-for-204) with 11 doubles, one triple, 10 home runs, and 29 RBI over 60 games with the Rays this season. Over parts of four seasons with the Orioles from 2012-15, Pearce batted .258/.338/.478 with 50 doubles, one triple, 43 home runs, and 116 RBI in 266 games. He set career-highs in 2014 with 26 doubles, 21 home runs, and 49 RBI in 102 games with Baltimore. Over 544 career Major League games, Pearce has hit .255/.334/.442 with 94 doubles, six triples, 63 home runs, and 209 RBI. Pearce was originally selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the eighth round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft. He will wear No. 28.

Despaigne, 29, went 0-2 with a 4.81 ERA (13 ER/24.1 IP) over 15 games with the Orioles this season.

Wilson, 26, went 4-6 with a 4.98 ERA (47 ER/85.0 IP) over 17 games (13 starts) with the Orioles this season.

With luck, we won't see Despaigne again. That he made it this far before imploding was impressive.

I'm not putting Alvarez in the field. I am saying Alvarez is our DH against RHP, so there is really no role for Flaherty. In an emergency, I would shift Schoop to 3rd, Pearce to 2nd, Manny to SS. There is really no scenario that we actually need Flaherty, and his lack of playing time even with a 3-man bench reflects that.

If we keep Flaherty over Reimold, then we are going to have to start Kim or Alvarez against LHP. Buck has shown he does not want to do that.

And what's wrong with starting Kim? He's a professional. He's is better than Nolan
