So Kim has only shown he's a good player in the last few weeks?

Nice to see Dan got a copy of the memo Buck sent out making sure everyone talks about Kim being out of shape in ST.

Shame Brady had that interview before camp started.

And don't think we don't recall the silence about Tillman's gut last spring.

It amazes me how often and consistently the club has had less than glowing things to say about Kim. He has been the most consistent player on the roster from Opening Day until now. And Dan's comment "Kim has shown how good a hitter he is in the last few weeks" seemingly ignores that Kim has been hitting well over .300 all season long. Just odd

I think they are still busy trying to justify their actions in the spring.

So if the plan all along was for Bundy to throw 100+ innings this year where did we, as a collective group, pull the 70IP cap out of?

I know we didn't decide on it as a group, there was no poll.

At least they got it right in the end, and didn't pull a Nats and have their best pitcher sitting around doing nothing while they lose a shot at a title.

I think the FO narrative in regard to Kim is so firmly entrenched at this point that I wish the press would just let it drop so we can get back to enjoying his approach at the plate without distraction.

Well, we don't know if they got it right in the end.

He threw 20 innings in 2015, 41 in 2014 and hasn't thrown ~100 since 2012.

He's up to 81 now. With...what...7 or so starts to go? If he goes 5-6 IP each start, we're talking about 110-120 IP this year. Not counting playoffs (if lucky enough to make them).

A lot can change in between now and then. And it could be bordering on the irresponsible at some point. Hard to say if it's right just yet. It's satisfying to see him pitching well. But the velocity dip and command issues are certainly concerning.

Eh, Im not so wure we need to be reading anything into any comments about Kim.

Are you really a fan if you don't take an off-the-cuff remark by someone associated with the team and write a 33-page thesis on the meaning behind it and how it portends either great genius or baffling stupidity?

I have a feeling the fan consensus will be 98% results and 2% planning or process or risk assessment. If Bundy gets through the season healthy and reasonably good everyone will think it was awesome, if he gets hurt or pitches poorly it will be stupid and a firing offense.

The reality is probably that they have an asset they can use, and they think the risk is low enough to take it. At some point you have to take some risk and live with the consequence, I think the Nats were wrong.

I've been reading a lot of posts about Bundy's supposed velocity dip, presumably a reference to his last start. I'm surprised nobody has linked to Buck's presser yet. Buck addresses Bundy's velocity from last start, saying it was mostly 2 seam FBs (which are slower than his 4 seamer).

Folks have linked to it, and mentioned it.

Repeatedly.

The problem is what Buck is saying isn't supported by sites such as Brooks Baseball.

http://www.brooksbaseball.net/velo.php?player=605164&time=&startDate=03/30/2007&endDate=08/23/2016&s_type=2

As you can see they show a clear decline in 4 seam velocity.

    • Smith and Bowman signed Milb contacts, stop period. which means if they not have 6 years MLB service they make minor league money if they are in the minors. Albert signed a one guarenteed contract, 740k. Itwas A Milb contract to keep him off the 40. Even if he got DFA or never pitched one inning of MLB he still makes the 740k. He was good enough to demand this contract and get it. Smith and Bowman were not.
    • Just because you sign as a free agent doesn’t mean you aren’t subject to the rules around 6 years of service time. For instance, I don’t believe Burch Smith or Matt Bowman can elect free agency unless they are outrighted, released, or non-tendered. However, there are examples of foreign professionals being eligible to elect free agency early - for example Shintaro Fujinama last year.  It’s not part of the CBA, but presumably the commissioner will approve that special covenant as part of an FA deal if the player has at least 6 years of experience in foreign league.  It’s possible they would let Suarez combine his 1 year MLB service time (prior to this season) with his 3 years in NPB and 2 years in KBO.  And it’s possible they let Suarez write these terms into an MILB contract that had split MLB terms.  It wouldn’t have been my starting assumption, but it seems plausible.
    • Here I am checking in. We and our condo on the east side of Asheville made it through unscathed. On Tuesday we flew into DC and moved into a hotel in Falls Church. Our son, Eric, ordered us to make that trip and made all the arrangements because we had no internet and limited cell service. We expected to stay a week while electricity is restored and then we learned about the dire water situation. We are moving in with Eric and his family who have been supporting us in every way possible, anticipating needs and things that would help us. Our daughter, Robyn, and her husband, Ken live about 30 miles west of Asheville , Waynesville, had no damage, never lost power or water. Today they rescued my car from $30 a day hourly parking, threw out everything that was beginning to make the condo stink and tied up  a few ends we left loose when we left Dodge in a hurry. They are, collectively, the loving, supportive family everyone should want and have .
    • You should really try to read. It will make you less slow.
    • Just pointing out that not everyone wanted Adley extended last year.
    • Hopefully he will spend money to keep guys long term.    This was a puff piece.
    • At least Joe Jackson seemed to be a decent human.
