I haven't watched him closely to judge his defense. I know his metrics aren't good. It could be that the plan is for Kim to DH which would make sense since we have passed on Trumbo. I would be OK with Saunders in left. Might still need another RH bat or everyday RF if that is the plan.

Roch is reporting that the O's are interested in Michael Saunders.  This guy has a hard time playing left field.  How the heck  will he be be able to play right effectively? I can't take this kind of report seriously.

The guy has been all over the map, defensively.  Seems to be rated so inconsistently that he is a poster child for those arguing against the validity of various defensive matrices that we see.  While it is common to see a player fluctuate in a large way from year to year on offense, it is less common to see such wild swings from year to year on defense.  Finished fourth among all outfielders, and first among right fielders, in total zone runs in 2014.  Oddly, he has rated higher in right than left over his career.

He was pretty bad in high leverage situations last year .206/.268/.333/.601 and although he hit like Babe Ruth against us last year, he really is pretty mediocre against everyone else. His poor second half last year (.178/.282/.357/.638) is a concern as well. He hits the fastballs well but can be gotten out with good sliders and changeups.

Add in some poor defensive metrics and his high strike out totals and I'm not sure he's a great for this team.

It honestly depends on what kind of deal we gave him. I think $11 is to much, but if we got him for around $8-$9 for 2-3 years, I'd be ok with that.

If he's a backup plan for Trumbo, then maybe. The guy has been all over the place defensively and if he can become average in right field in OPACY, then maybe he's worth a shot. I mean the guy does like hitting in OPACY with a career .305/.376/.756/1.132 slash line in 93 PAs. I just think his career .309 OBP and high strikeouts make him a risk for this lineup that needs OBP and not more decent power, high strikeouts low OBP guys.

His bat hasn't played well against the Yankees or the Redsox.

I'm the poster child of arguing that. Any metric which has a defensive or stolen base or pitch framing component is flawed substantially.
