While he was a better last year Castillo has consistently been ranked toward the very bottom in both pitch framing and sequencing.

Castillo had a DRS of 7 last season and Weiters 3.

Honestly, when the Orioles get pitchers that have better command then I'll worry about pitch framing.

I did not see this posted anywhere else.Just spoke to someone I know who said that he is not a great thrower or catcher .He is nothing to write home about and that is why he got non tendered.

And that is exactly why the Cubs gave up on him. Just my opinion, but you must play defense up the middle.

Castillo: career .318 OBP and .734 OPS

Wieters is better defensively but you have to factor in money. Castillo probably costs 2/12-15 versus 12-15 per for Wieters. Is their gap in defense worth 6-7 million per year? No. Give me Castillo (or Hundley for 2/8).

Wieters career 98 OPS+, Castillo at 97.  Plus Castillo is younger and will probably cost considerably less than even a team-friendly Wieters deal.  I hope this gets done and the savings is actually put toward a right fielder.

Fine by me. I was afraid the Orioles would give Wieters three or four years and watch him decline. Castillo will be fine along with Joseph/Pena for a year or two.
