How has Gausman gotten this screwed up?

Still too many pitches. Plus, he got his typical run support. Zero. Compared to what's been happening, he looked like Cy Young.

Kevin Gausman and Jeremy Guthrie are two of the worst Orioles pitchers that I have ever seen in terms of inspiring their offense.

They really suck at it.

Was fine first time through the order, then needed over 50 pitches to get through their order the second time over the next two innings. Not really that much of a difference. Once opponents see his stuff once, they fare much better the second time through. He didn't completely implode this time, so I guess that's something. Still the same Gausman, though.

Last night was certainly better, but if Palmer can see the issue with throwing 2 strike fastballs down the middle of the plate, why can't Gausman, Joseph, McDowell, and Buck?  Every hit in the 5th came on a two strike FB down the middle.  He did a great job mixing in his other pitches most of the game, but what the heck happened in the 5th?  He's got a nice split finger, that could develop into a really nice out pitch for him on 2 strikes if he'd use that sometimes instead of relying on the fastball.

Everyone can see the issue.  The problem is that he misses his spot by a foot repeatedly.  It's nobody's fault but his if he can't command his stuff.

Exactly!  There were a few times last night when he got the K, but still missed the target by over a foot.  The one to Encarnacion in the 4th comes to mind.  There is just no confidence that he can throw his offspeed pitches for strikes or to even look like they will be strikes so hitters can't layoff.

Lock it up: Next Jake Arrieta (for another team).

Haven't heard this one before.  Maybe Mike Wright is the next Arrieta.

Gausman looked better.  He threw a lot more first pitch strikes.  For a guy that has a FB like his, he has a really hard time putting hitters away.  Poor FB command and lack of secondaries are pretty much to blame for his struggles this season.

One thing I don't understand about Gausman.  He has that FB that tails away from LH batters.  Why not start the pitch off the inside corner and let it tail and catch the inside part of the plate.  That's confidence and command right there.

Weird that he has never had a winning record in the majors or minors. Granted he did not pitch much in the minors. No team will score for him.>:(
