It May Not Be Too Late...

... But it's always later than you think.

The front office needs to understand the inherent wisdom of this maxim.  The quality of this team's immediate future depends on it.  For years I think we have enjoyed a somewhat false sense of competitiveness, as pitchers, and to a lesser extent, some hitters, have outperformed their statistical means or projections.  And hey, I've enjoyed it.  But we are now seeing what happens when a perfect storm of regression and injuries dooms this team to near ineptitude.  I suppose we could sit tight, maybe add a piece here or there and hope for the best (It may not be too late approach), or we could get creative and try to find a way to retain a more healthily balanced and long-term competitiveness (it's later than you think approach).  I'm solidly in the latter category, but I'm old enough to know I don't know much.  Anyhoo....
