What did Casey Stengel get fired for ???

While it was never entirely clear why Stengel was fired (some say it was his very questionable decision in regard to the 1960 World Series, some say it was because the Yankees thought that he was too old and wanted to go in a new direction, etc.), one of the primary theories was Stengel's decision to choose to start Art Ditmar in Game One of the 1960 World Series instead of Whitey Ford.

That decision prevented the possibility of Ford pitching 3 games in that World Series (not unusual at all at that time.)

Subsequently, Ford only pitched 2 games in that World Series (Games 3 and Games 6, throwing complete-game shutouts in both of them), and was unavailable to pitch at all in what turned out to be the decisive Game Seven.
