Yeah, an ERA of 4.50 to 5.00 is pretty much exactly what I expected.  He'll have some nice games and some stinkers, but by and large he'll keep you in most of them.

Man this guy would work on a team that score 3-5 runs a game reliably.  In a good year he might even roll off 16-20 wins.  He keeps you in games.

He drains your pen.  He's only gone more than 6.0 once so far this year, with an unhealthy amount of 5.0 and 4.2 starts.

He's a better pitcher than that. He's also giving up more homers than he has in the past.  Hopefully it improves.

Cashner is fine for a back-end starter who will probably be a 1-2 WAR player, which is basically what we're paying him for.

He reminds me of Gallardo in many ways, but he's a less bad version so far.

Side note,  watching Chris Tillman the last two years has messed with my perception of what counts as unacceptable pitching. I looked up Gallardo's numbers with us--5.42 ERA and 1.59 WHIP in 118 innings--and my first thought was, hey that's not THAT bad.

A number of us comped him to Gallardo.
