I'd bet my rent money that he'd come back...after a successful surgery operation and a rehab. He's only 30, but his velocity has been down and he's had nagging injuries.

This is a bit different than Gonzo when Duquette cut him right after spring training. Tillman got *way* more leeway here.

And Jake Arrieta was only 27 when he was traded. I don't think most people thought he wouldn't amount to anything. I think people thought he wouldn't amount to anything with the O's.

Surgery for what?

Yeah, he wasn't working here. That happens sometimes. Doesn't mean anyone thought he didn't have "it". He clearly had good stuff and potential still. The guy was a top 20 prospect with tremendous upside.

Tillman is on the backside of his career hitting in the high 80's velo wise and getting lit up in A ball.

Again, not exactly the same situation really at all. Tillman isn't working out in A ball, Arrieta wasn't working out in the bigs but dominating lower levels and still displaying great stuff while pitching.

True.

But, keep in mind, Jake was not dominating lower levels with the Orioles, he did have good stuff at times, and but couldnt maintain it. Which what frustrated them so much.

There is a little more to that. Not letting him throw the cutter and the ridiculous TTTP stuff.

I will say this, Chris is a fighter. I forgot that his first 3 years in the majors his ERA was over 5. He kept plugging away and was dominant at times.

What's sad is that the best we ever saw him (IMO) was the first half of 2016. At age 28 he was really hitting his stride and had everything working. Velocity, control, offspeed stuff. He kept us afloat that year.

I'll be curious because it felt like it all turned on that shoulder injury he suffered toward the end of that year. Somehow he gutted out a few key performances, but he never looked the same. Almost like he only got to enjoy his peak for half a season. To peter out at 28 is no fun. But shoulder injuries will do that.

I agree and I think he needs to go see a couple shoulder specialists. You don't just lose it like that unless something is wrong.

Did some googling.. Check this.

I never quite realized he actually acknowledged that August 2016 was never quite right. He felt it again in the off season and was doing different things to try to prep for 2017. Never quite got there. The rest is history. And it was in his contract year.. Poor guy.

Sometimes shoulders are bum and surgeries won't fix it. I guess we'll see if he goes the surgery route finally. Would have thought he would do that after last season when his contract chances were already torpedoed.

I'd be pretty shocked to find out he hasn't already been to see them.  This is MLB afterall.  Some things just can't be fixed with surgery.

Tillman wasn’t getting outs at A ball.

It sucks that his career has to end this way.  Maybe now Tillman will consider surgery.  That is the only chance I see him making a comeback.

Yeah, I think that's his best course of action. He only just turned 30... get the surgery, rehab. Maybe eek out a couple of years as a long man.

I'm sure he has seen a few. At this point, it couldn't hurt to see a few more.

I guess this means once Britton is traded then the last of the cavalry will be gone (assuming Tillman moves on). A true end of an era. But like all good things...a bad case of genital warts, eh I mean a Chris Davis contract, lingers on...
